Show 2 THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, July 17, 1986 Taylorsville Finishes High BOISE. Taylorsvilles American Legion baseball team returned home Monday after a pair of long road tournament trips, tired but satisfied. First Taylorsville placed third in the Helper Tournament played July 6 then captured the runner-u- p spot in the Dairyman tournament in Boise, Idaho on July 3-- 10-1- Back to regular season action, Taylorsville hosts Skyline today (Thursday), travels to SouthWest tomorrow (Friday) and Tooele Saturday, entertains Brighton Monday and hits the road again for Cottonwood on Wednesday. All of the above games will start at 6 p.m. except the Tooele contest which is slated for 2 p.m. Boise Tournament Taylorsville opened the tourney by behind the nipping Coeur d'Alene pitching of starter Shane Patric and reliever Mark Tolbert, scattering five hits between them. At the plate, Ryan Brown had two doubles and Doug Clements one double. In the second round, Taylorsville overcame the Boise Gems 10-- 7 with Dave Littlewood and Ed Yack sharing the pitching duties. The only extra base hit for Taylorsville was a 2 SNAPPED UP . . . Granger third baseman Jacob Shewmake gloves grounder and prepares to unload to first base during Friday's American Legion game with Midvale. Homestanding Granger won the contest 7-- Granger scored a run in each of the first, second and fourth innings, the first on a throwing error, the second on a fielders choice by Steve Embley and the third on a single by Chuck Crowton. Midvale got back into the contest with a run in the top of the sixth on singles by Kelly Stubbs and Ken Hoskisson and a fielders choice by Matt Koehler. But in the bottom of the sixth, Granger answered back with four runs. Embley, Duane Webb and Crowton singled, Kelly Peterson hit a sacrifice fly and a dropped fly, hit by Jacob Shewmake, scored two. Midvale got one more run in the seventh as Brad Yergesson doubled and scored later on an error. Tracy Greenwood went the East Monday, but darkness forced a halt with Granger leading That game will have to be completed at a later date, but the other two games that Granger played were finished and with very decisive over Jordan last results, 15-over Midvale Wednesday and Friday. Granger will be at Hillcrest Friday and Granite Monday, both games starting at 6 p.m., then byes on the following Wednesday. 20-1- 3 7-- 2 Granger 7, Midvale 2 Page Brake Holds Lead MURRAY. Page Brake maintained its unbeaten record in Fast Pitch Softball action with a victory of Appliance Services, while Chucks Chevron notched its second victory count over Intermountain by a Mobile Service and Howells Paint took over sole possession of second with a 19-- thrashing of W.E.S.T. In the first game, Howells scored 18 runs all in the first inning against W.E.S.T. Chemical, which proved to be its own worst enemy by committing eight errors. Both teams had seven hits, but W.E.S.T. pitching gave up 14 walks. For the Howell team, both Laron and Regan Ras-ban- d went 2x3 and just about player got at least one hit. The winning pitcher was Robby Robertson and the loser Russ Kurger. Chucks Chevron outlasted Intermountain Mobile Service, scoring the winning runs in the last inning after Intermountain had had tied the score ata 4 in the fifth. The winning pitcher was Rocky Hudson, the loser Don Cowley. Chucks collected eight hits to five for the losers and was led by Rocky Hudsons 2x3 and Kevin Kinders two RBIs. Neil Wright and Tim Gomez were almost the whole show for Mobile, each getting two hits, including a triple by Wright and 4 4 2 a double by Gomez. lead Page Brake took an early over Appliance Services and added another in the fourth inning. The Aponpliance team tied the score at ly to watch Page Brake pull out the decision with a three run outburst in the fifth, while holding Appliance to one more tally. Page Brakes Clmt Dumas slugged a two-ruhomer in the fifth and Bryan Hansen added a solo shot in the sixth. Corey Dumas had a 2x3 effort for Page, while Guy Watts went 3x3. Gary Reid was 2x3 at the plate for the losers. Chris Hansen got the pitching win and Reid was credited with the loss. Page got nine hits and Appliance seven. Brown homered for Taylorsville, while 15, Jordan Mark Roberts had a double and two singles and Yack and Newby a double each. Capps worked the first five innings win over Twin in Taylorsvilles Falls, striking out and giving up three hits before being relieved by Dave Littlewood. Doubles were recorded by Roberts and Clements. Taylorsville then decked Brighton with Brown smashing a home and Trevino, Roberts and Tom Gallegos adding doubles. Patrick and Littlewood combined for a standout effort on the mound. Taylorsville then fell to 5 with eight errors creating doing part of the damage. Brown continued his hot streak at the plate with a double and a home run and Newby chipped in a double. 7-- 2 11-- 2 Tri-Cit- y 17-1- Clash Set Saturday All-St- ar MURRAY. The annual American baseball game will Legion be played Saturday at 7 p.m. at Ken Price Field in Murray. Players from both the valley and state divisions will be taking part in the classic confrontation. In a contest decidely not falling into the category of a pitchers duel, Granger was looking for its third win of the week against triple by Dave Trevino. Meridian fell to Tayorsville Rick Capps, the winning pitcher worked five innings, and Patrick two. Kevin Newby had a home run, Brown a double and a home run and Clements a double. Taylorsvilles first loss was a decision to the Boise Senators. Newby hit another round triper and Brown another double in the contest. Bouncing back, Taylorsville stopEd Yack pitped Caldwell, Idaho ching the first six innings and Capps finishing. Clements contributed a double as Taylorsville on extra base hit. In the title contst'on Sunday, the KYDGIiHE DEAL 3 Granger scored all the runs it would need in the first two innings, a pair of runs in each. In the first, a fielders choice by Scott Dalton brought Embly home from third then Dalton scored moments later on a passed ball, while in the second four walks and a wild pitch brought the runs in. Jordan then benifited from four Granger walks to score a run in the bottom of the second. Each team recorded a run in the third, Grangers on a Peterson triple and a Rich Fratto sacrifice and Midvales on a single by Matt Milne. Granger scored three more in the fourth off a fielders choice by Embley, a sacrifice fly by Anthony Bency and a single by Peterson. Midvales last run came home in the fifth on a Bill Hiebert double. A throwing error scored one run and a Shewmaker single a second in the sixth inning, then Granger finished with five in the seventh. Eight singles in a row were slapped out by Mike Harmon, Crowton, Peterson, Fratto, Shewmake, Duane Webb, Greenwood and Bench. Harmon worked all seven innings on the mound for Granger, striking out five.
