Are you bothered with government red tape when you try to resol ve a problem ? If so, you ought to know about a special office the IRS has to help taxpayers with problems. The Problem Resolution Program (PRP) can cut through normal channels for you, a spokesman says. The most common problems brought to the PRP office are complaints about missing refunds, mixed up social security numbers, incorrect billings by IRS and situations caused by taxpayer error, the IRS says. They cautioned, however, that the Problem Resolution should not be used as a substitute for normal procedures. For example, persons who have not received their refund should first call the IRS tax information number because that is the normal procedure. If the refund is still not sent, that represents a problem. The taxpayer can contact the IRS and ask for Problem Resolution. Although most taxpayers will never need the services of PRP, those with a persistent tax problem will find PRP willing and able to help. The Problem Resolution Office can be contacted through the IRS assistance number listed in the phone book under U.S. Government. ed. n Room for the program, including German names, is also included in the design, he said.
