Show nr r- - THE GREEN SHEET Thursday , January 2,1986 Race In Region Three Is Between Five Squads GRANGER. Based on the outcome e of action, Region Three could be a real battleground as league play is launched Tuesday. Although there are some haves and have nots, most coaches dont feel they can look past the likes of Granger, Kearns and Granite, who have encountered rough sledding in e action. Kearns is the only team still looking for its first win. The Cougars will e finale at home play their tomorrow (Friday). Coach Kenyon Clark thinks his young team will just get better and better as the season wears on. The Cougars initiate league play at Granite, a team that has been able to win just one game so far, that a over Murray. One of the two will get the season off on the right foot. Granger also would qualify among the have nots based on play. The Lancers have had turnover problems and are cold shooters after being hit hard by graduation. However, Coach Ed Gray is working hard on a deliberate style that is aimed at ironing out those problems and the Lancers are always tough defensively. They face the unenviable task of meeting Taylorsville Tuesday. Skyline has a powerhouse team with good balance of size, speed and experience and many have picked the Eagles to continue their domination of the league. However Olympus welcomed back four starters and have proven to be an excellent team. The Titans will sharpen their skills against a good Bingham team Friday and them launch the league season against Cottonwood Tuesday. The Colts are big, quick and experienced, especially if Brad Burton is able to return as expected Tuesday. The Colts have lost some toughies against solid competition in e play and are looking solid. They will meet Hillcrest Friday before traveling to Oly Tuesday. Much is expected from a huge Cyprus team with a pair of tiny, quick guards. Usually by the time the schedule starts to wind down, its possible to get some indication as to how things are headed for a team or group of teams. However, such is not the case in Region Six basketball. If anything, the has left the waters muddier than before it started. But most teams, with the exception of Jordan, have another game or two to get things settled down. West has been among the steadier teams in the league, but it hasnt a bed of roses for the Panthers either, witness their game against 4A Bingham back on Dec. 10. Tooele has been tough in the past, but this is another year. The same is true for South, which returns just one player from last years tough team. Jordan was hurt just as much by graduation.
