Show 2B THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, September Mnflesttoones 19, 1985 non Lnvnmigg Golden Anniversary For Harry H., Violet Powell Birthday Open House For Gladys Syme Gladys Jackson Syme will be honored on the occasion of her 80th birthday with an open house on Sept. 28th at the Pleasant Green Ward, 8739 W. 3000 South, Magna. Her children will host the event from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and they are requesting no gifts. Gladys was born Sept. 25, 1905 in Moroni, Utah to Charles H. and Annie Jensen Jackson. On March 5, 1924 she married Alden B. Syme in the Manti Court House, and later the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Gladys worked as a school lunch cook in Moroni, Utah for eleven years and then at the LDS Hospital, in the housekeeping department, for 14 years. She is acive in the LDS church and has worked in Sunday School, Primary and MIA in various teaching positions. Since moving to Magna she has continued her activity in the ward Relief Society. She has traveled to various states to visit her grandchildren and has made a quilt for every one of them and for most of her greatgrandchildren. She is the mother of four children. management supervisor for 20 years before she retired in 1977. She is noted for her beautiful handiwork, knitting, crocheting, embroidery and cross stitch pictures. Tole painting is another of her accomplishments. She enjoys golf. Both Harry and Violet are active in the LDS church. She was president of the Pleasant Green Ward Relief Society for seven years, a counselor in the Oquirrh Stake Relief Society and also a Primary William H. (Harry) and Violet Wilkin Powell are celebrating 50 years of marriage this week. Due to illness, a family party will be hosted by their children at a later date this fall. Harry and Violet were married Sept. 21, 1935 in Magna and have made their home there for the entire fifty years. He worked at Kennecotts Magna plant as a machinist and retired in 1972, being the last of four generations of Powells who have been employed there. Harry enjoys all sports but his favorite is golf and he has won many tournaments. He was the Copper Club Champ in 1967, the 1968 Zone 31 Champ, 1976 I.N.T. Central area champ, 1980 Vets Champ, Division 6 and low gross champ in has also won many church tournaments. Violet was employed at the University Medical Center as a unit teacher and Sunday School secretary. as president He served of the Elders Quorum and High Priest Group. They both do temple work. Harry and Violet are the parents of three children. They are: Bill, Magna; Richard Wilkin, West Valley, and Sue (Mrs. John) Dalling, Salt Lake. They have seven grandchildren and two They are: Chuck, Boyce, both Magna; Theone Jorgensen and Lorene Ollerton, both Kearns. She has 17 grandchildren, 47 greatgrandchildren and one Florida Honeymoon For Walkenhorst, Buma barbie Rupp Wed In LDS Rites ToSwainston Paul Buma, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeGrand P. Buma, Holladay, exchanged marriage vows with Melinda Walkenhorst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Walkenhorst, Bennion, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 9th. A wedding breakfast at the Lion House followed the ceremonies and that evening a reception was held at the Seven Oaks reception center. Chuck-A-Ram- The bride is a Murray high graduate, has attended the University of Utah and filled an LDS mission to Hamburg, Germany. The groom is a graduate of Skyline high. The bride was attended by Leslie Bagley and Loni Smith with Teri Hortin as maid of honor. The newlyweds will make their home in Midvale following a honeymoon to Orlando, Florida. The Salt Lake LDS Temple w as the setting for the Sept. 11th wedding of Barbie Rupp and Blaine Swainston. The newlyweds exchanged rings after the temple ceremonies. A wedding breakfast was given at a the and that evening a reception was held at the Old Meeting House. The following evening there was an open house in Preston, Idaho, at the home of the grooms parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Swainston. The newlyweds honeymooned in Southern Utah as well as the Grand Canyon and will make their home in Logan. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. JoAnn S. Rupp, Taylorsville, and the late Marvin J. Rupp. She is a graduate of Taylorsville high and is attending Utah State University. ... The groom graduated from Preston high and is also attending Utah State University. He has filled an LDS mission to Las Vegas, Nevada. Matron of honor was Mrs. Debra Holdaway with other attendants Kelly Swainston, Sylvia Swainston and Oreno, Trudy Frame, Noanie Telford and Kay Woodruff. Parites were also hosted by Ginny Davis, Pat Martindale, Loni Smith and Lisa Anderson. Ruth Ann Parker. Josephine Willmore Notes Birthday The children and grandchildren of Josephine Cressall Willmore, of Magna, will host an open house in honor of her 80th birthday, Sat. (Sept. 21) between the hours of 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. in the Magna Senior Citizen Center, 8962 West 2700 South. Friends and relatives are being vited to attend.
