Show 4B THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, September 5, 1985 Scibools KHS Thespians To 'Do Their Thing' In Little-use- d Setting KEARNS. A departure from the norm will await patrons of Kearns high musicals when Damn Yankees opens Sept. 12 for a four-nigpresentation. The production will be presented outdoors in the school amphitheater, rather than in the auditorium, as has been done previously. We were asked to cut down on the budget this year and, as royalties constitute the biggest single expense In presenting a musical, and the cost of royalty is based on the number of seats available, we decided we had to find a smaller area, explained director Julie Brough. We decided the amphitheater . would be perfect for this production, she said. The Kearns high auditorium is the largest in Granite district and even a respectably sized audience can seem small. Filling the area for a production seems impossible, yet royalty fees are based on the available seating, not on size of audience, explained school officials. The amphitheater is a pleasant, , enclosed open area, with tiers of d banks facing the playing area. Since seating will be on the grass, those attending are being advised to bring blankets, cushions and sweaters if cooler weather prevails, the director commented. Sets for the production are being built on stage and will be moved to the area when completed, she explained. This is a real challenge, it is my very first outdoor production, but it is fun and working out very well, she remarked. Mrs. Brough is handling lighting along, with her directing duties. The orchestra is under the direction of ht grass-covere- by Cheryl Fennema Applegate; Lana Fergason, Meg Boyd; Norman Carlson, Joe Boyd; Jon Lorenc, Joe Bangerter, Hardy. Tickets will be priced at $3, with a family ticket available for $12. Songs include You Gotta Have Heart and Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets.
