Show 3 Woods Cross Falls THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, September - 24-1- 0 Granger Is Impressive In Initial Outing Friday d GRANGER. A defensive and offensive effort led Granger high to an impressive 0 victory over Woods Cross Friday night. The Lancers will hope to make exgood use of that night-gam- e perience tomorrow (Friday) when they travel to Granite to kick off Region Three action against a good Farmer team. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Lancers rolled up 365 yards of total offense despite 11 penalties that subtracted 100 yards from the nights totals. Those offensive statistics were pleasing to Coach Mike Fraser who also saw his defensive unit make up for four turnovers by recording five takeaways. Fraser will be looking for more consistency in the offense, which was inside the Wildcat 20 seven times, but could only score on three occasions. A fumble ended the seasons first possesion after a good drive, but the Lancer defense refused to yield any ground and Granger was right back in business. This time the effort wasnt wasted. After a run Dean by Brian Moore and a Kimber to Moore completion, Jay Simon slipped through the Wildcat line for a touchdown run with 2:43 left in the first period. Justin Campbell added the PAT and Granger was ahead to stay. Darren Lopez recovered a fumble at the Woods Cross 33 to set up the next score. Kimber hit Curt Condie for nine yards and then Moore for 22 solidly-balance- 24-1- and the score. Campbell added the PAT for a 14-- lead. In the second period Granger fumbled at its own nine and Woods Cross turned that opportunity into seven points, but Granger answered right back with 3 : 12 left in the half as field goal. Campbell nailed a Penalties and fumbles plagued Granger in the second half, but a tight-en- d reverse by Zac Gardner went for 51 yards to get Granger out of a hole and on the ensuing play Kimber hit Simon with a screen pass that covered 39 for the touchdown. Woods Cross kicked a field goal late in the fourth period to cut into the margin. Granger held the Wildcats to 138 yards while rolling up the 365. Kimber was 7x15 for 107 and was not intercepted. Woods Cross was 9x26 with two interceptions, one by Steve Embley and another by Moore. Lopez, Trevor Sugden and William Kinikini recovered fumbles. The Lancers rushed for 238 yards with Simon and Moore carrying the ball 13 times each for 75 and 60 yards. Moore was the leading receiver with three catches for 50 yards. Sugden netted defensive player of the game honors while offensive honors went to Simon. Also earning praise from Fraser were Moore, lineman Ben and Kimber on the offensive unit, while defenders Condie, Embley, Bill Naylor and Kinikini were cited. I dont know when Ive been as pleased with a first outing," Fraser admitted. er Prep Poll PROVO.
