A new support and educational group for families and friends of mentally ill adults in the western Salt Lake valley has been established by the Utah Alliance for the Mentally 111 (UAMI). Interested individuals are invited to attend the West Valley Chapter of the UAMI Thursday, March 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at Pioneer Valley Hospital. Family support meetings will be held the first and third Thursdays of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Pioneer Valley, followed at 7:30 p.m. by educational lectures from professionals in the field of mental health. Pioneer Valley hospital is located at 3460 South Pioneer Parkway (4155 West) in West Valley City. The Alliance is a organization of families and friends working together to improve the care and treatment of adults afflicted with mental illness. The Alliance also helps its members to cope with the problems of mental illness through group support and instruction. In part two, Mr. Barbeau will base his presentation on questions submitted by both parents and teens, touching on such areas as parental authority, the maturing teen, active listening and honest responses, the right to privacy, and the freedom to make and admit to mistakes.
