In fairness, the Nerd charecters, and particularly the two pencil-lade- n heroes, are very original, and at times, very funny. But it seems the writers felt that those few were enough, and saw no need to create any other characters to support them. Instead, they raided movies such as Animal House and Frat Party, taking everything that was bad about those films and making it infinitely worse. Particularly offensive in Nerds is Ogre, a Belushi-lik- e charecter whos humorous parts consist of rolling his eyes and spitting beer on anyone standing within 10 feet. Real stuff. Also objectionable is the almost constant stream of profanity running through the film, which seems to serve no other purpose than to Mini Park. The Dinwoody THE ARTIE SHAW ORCHESTRA will perform Tuesday at Symphony Hall, hosted by the Utah Symphony. Personally supervised by Shaw, the orchestra is led by clarinetist Dick Johnson and sports five saxes, three trombones, four trumpets and a piano, string bass, electric guitar and drums. Some of the more liberal, and lengthy, nude scenes one film might encounter in an are included in Nerds. The most bothersome aspect of the whole thing is that it could have been a very good movie. The Nerd charecters, with their greased r hair, pants and at least a dozen writing implements apiece, are hilarious when they do nothing but stand around. Their outrageous, donkey-lik- e laughs are while their nasal contagious, delivery turns the most mundane conversation into real entertainment. One of the highlights of the film is the Nerd party when the camera alternately pans the group of silent, twitching youngsters, the unbelieving faces of two fraternity officials invited to observe the event, and the relentless movement of the clock. As funny as the Nerd charecters are, however, they dont make up for all the bad things about the film. When taken as a whole, Revenge of the Nerds is as complete a piece of trash as has ever littered the screen. The film carries an R rating and is playing at Plaza 5400, Family Center Trolley and Cottonwood and Crossroads Malls. pI I I I I I I I I ?3, 1984 Ice Capades To Highlight State Fair Film Review Malis-McQuee- Thursday, August Pic AND SAVE SHOPPING CENTER Price |
