Show Thursday June 9B WEST VALLEY VIEW 28, 1984 of Utah UteuuMg THE LEGISLATURE Bill BAKTON District 12 By SINATOK We have felt pressure from many sources in our education systems intensely for the past five or so years. Most of the pressure comes from trying to find ways of meeting the needs of the in- bers of students. It is anticipated that this trend Smm to 12th grade system are just starting to impact our postsecondary institutions now. We know that the situation in will be with us well beyond the 80s if we dont do something about it. This impact is created, not only by the additional students coming out of over-crowde- d For The Weavers Of Kiowa Court - Taking Care Of The Yard Is A Hobby HUNTER The garden-yarof Robert and Joan Weaver 5043 Kiowa court, has been singled out for recognition in the annual West Valley Area Chamber of Commerce d The home is situated on a corner Mr. Weaver has lot, in a built up a diamond shaped area in beautification program. the corner, to form a miniature mountain scene, with quaking (SeePage 12B, Col. 1) high school, but from numerous adults seeking retraining or merely wanting a first time skill to obtain a better job. It would be extremely difficult to ask the taxpayers to pay increased taxes in order to build enough new facilities to take care of all the people seeking education. It is, therefore, my suggestion that we launch a vigorous campaign to see that all existing facilities are put to full usage for education. That would mean holding classes in municipal buildings, libraries, senior citizen centers, business houses and even elementary school and junior high buildings in the evenings and on Saturday. This would be patterned after our community education system where classes are held at the high schools. California and some other states have community college systems that operate like this. The only permanent facilities that are needed are for administration. They offer an excellent variety of classes where people can even obtain their two-yeassociate science degrees. This would be one method of meeting the needs of today and tomorrow without building a great amount of new college facilities. Utah should consider this non-camp- ? head lettuce ! Fees h WATERMELON! He hopes to produce hydrogen gas for fuel at a high enough rate of efficiency to make it economically feasible as a substitute for hydrocarbons and other sources of limited fuel.
