Show 2B 80th Year- - Out Our Window . . WEST VALLEY VIEW Thursday, Feb. 16, 1984 L. Crawford Carl Will Honor House Open . Last weekend was a delight. Nothing 'big' happened, but experienced joy in so many different ways that, as I settled down for sleep on Sunday night I couldn't help but ponder over the fact that it's the little things that make life good. I Oddly, my first oy was shoveling snow. Oh, I know snow can ba a bora, but Saturday's storm was terrific. I measured a good foot on my pathways but it was as light as a feather. Early in the morn, before one person or dog had soiled the perfection, I bundled myself up and began my task. The whole world was quiet. I felt like was cushioned in some wonderful, soft, white cocoon and even the few people who passed in cars must have felt the same magic, for, though perfect strangers, we waved and smiled to each other. I seldom build a fire In the mornings, but as I came in, cold, rubbing my hands and stomping my feet, I knew that there was nothing I wanted more than a biasing fire. So I built it, pulled my chair up to the hearth, put my toes up to warm and enjoyed a piping pot of hot coffee. Absolute bliss. He is always whistling and n pranksinging and is a ster. Carls hobbies include gardening on his 216 acre plot of ground in Magna, loves growing flowers to give away and raises fancy birds well-know- dilly-dallyin- g Norine Feldman, Orangevale, California; Carol Brown and Melvin of Magna and Leroy of West Valley. He has 25 grandchildren and 39 -- fun family But such couldn't go on forever for had work to do. The Bridal Section which will be a part of next week's Green Sheet was only and knew I'd best get busy. So, I opened a card table close to the fireplace, moved my typewriter there and with his son Melvin. He stopped raising as many birds as he once did because of the several thousand dollars worth of birds that were stolen and killed by stray dogs. Mr. Crawford has beehives and harvests the family honey, enjoys experimental cooking, and also quilts, bottles and dries fruit. Carl does many silent services for others. When he feels anyone needs anything he does the best he can to help them. He also raised figs, sweet potatoes and peanuts which agriculturists swear cant be done in this area. Mr. Crawford is the second of 8 children and has one brother and three sisters living. He is the father of seven children. They are Leona Halton, Phyllis Longton, Doris Taylor all of Kearns; Castleton mine in Pioche and also for Bradshaw Auto and Crawford Motors in Cedar City. In 1951 they came to Magna where Carl worked for Kennecott Copper. Mr. Crawford, active in the LDS church, has served in Parowan and in Magna as ward clerk, served and school superintendency Sunday was in the bishopric in Magna. He is Carl L. Crawford will be honored with an open house on February 20th on the occasion of his 80th birthday. His daughter Leona C. Halton and granddaughter will host the event. Friends and relatives are being invited to call at the home of Mary H. Martinez, 5417 Colliseum Court, in Bennion, between the hours of 6 to 8p.m. Carl was born February 20, 1904 in Springdale, Utah, the son of Daniel and Sarah Curtis Crawford. He grew up in Springdale, at the mouth of Zions Canyon, and worked at Escalante Hotel in Cedar City where he met his wife, Marie. Marie and Carl were married at the St. George LDS Temple on October 10, 1928. During their early years of marriage Carl farmed in Cedar City and eventually, with his father, they bought a farm in Paro-wa- n where they stayed for many years. Later they moved to Panaca, Nevada where he worked in the I began writing. Now, as each of you knows, there's nothing quite so satisfying as doing a job you love, and that was what I was doing. Writing about something I wanted to write about . . . nothing to bother me . . . warm as toast . . . coffee at hand . . . the creative juices running. Heaven. Ethel Bradford, women's editor Then came an invitation to a late lunch (early dinner?) and within a trice I had changed clothes and was off to meet a dear friend. In cases like this, the food isn't the important part of the event either. It is meeting, the exploring of ideas and the love exchanged. So when I wandered home with the setting sun I was at peace with the world. And with myself. LDS Rites- - Kimberly Rasmussen My day ended tucked into bed watching some program I wanted on TV, a good phone call and I just 'knew that the next day couldn't be so great. But it was. The Salt Lake LDS Temple was wedthe setting for the double-rin- g PutH. Leron ding ceremony uniting nam and Kimberly Rasmussen on February 2nd. Pre-nupti- I wandered out to take Rachael's Valentine to her, and Rachael and I played games, read books and sang songs together. What could be better? The wonderful weekend ended with a visit with a niece of mine who is leaving today for an LDS mission. There were other relatives present and the good talk brought my weekend to a close with a warm feeling of happiness and joy. : 9' Each such a little thing. But such simple joys make the hours happy, the hours make the days, the days, the weeks, the weeks, the years and then you have, if you are lucky, a happy life.
