Show 5 WEST VALLEY VIEW Thursday, Jan. 24, . 1984 Begins On Jan. 27 Camp Fire Candy Sale Due In Area MURRAY. The annual Camp Fire candy sale Is scheduled to begin on Jan. 27 and run through Feb. 17. The types of candy being sold include a 4 lk ounce chocolate bar with almonds, a Vk ounce box of con- tinental almonds and a 4 ounce box of chocolate mint meltaways. Each sells for $2. Camp Fire is a United Way organization with headquarters at e the Redwood Center. The candy sale is nationwide. This is the only official fundraising event for the Camp Fire organization during the year and the proceeds provide camp scholarships, according to those in charge. The purpose of the Camp Fire program is to provide, through informal education, opportunities for youth to realize their potential and to function effectively as caring, individuals responsible to themselves and to others, a spokesman said. Headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., the Camp Fire organization includes more than 300 local councils serving girls and boys across the country. Camp members include boys and girls from birth to age 21. Blue Birds are grades one, two, and three; Adventure, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades and Horizon, grades -- The organization was founded in as Camp Fire Girls. In 1975, Camp Fire was expanded to include boys. In 1979, the word Girls was officially dropped from the organizations name. By West Valley Chamber Of Commerce Community Church Board In Session MAGNA. The annual board meeting at Magna Community church will be held immediately following the 10:45 Sunday morning worship service, according to Rev. Steve Wolden, pastor. Business concerning the ministry for 1984 will be discussed. He added that stew and sandwiches will be served to those who participate in the session. Rev. Wolden also said the churchs clothing bag program had been very effective this year, with many needy people being helped by the distribution of goods. Leftover materials were taken to the Crossroads Urban Center where they will be given to other needy people. Try a Green Sheet Want Ad! - Heywood, McDougal Are Honored TAYLORSVILLE. Recognition was accorded an athlete and a businesswoman during a meeting of the West Valley Area Chamber of Commerce here Thursday. Former Granger high eager Tom Heywood was cited as Athlete of the Year for 1983 during the Chambers monthly membership luncheon. Also, Ilene McDougal was honored as the Chambers Businesswoman of the Month. Presentation of the awards was made during a meeting which featured a talk on management by Dean Trump of Hercules. The award for athletic performance, a new item among the Chambers recognition projects, was presented by Ron Louviere, conducting his initial meeting as presi Remember When the Chamber board of directors. Mrs. McDougal operates the Seville Wedding and Reception Center in Taylorsville. The firm has been in business since 1968, having been started by her husband Daniel McDougal. Mrs. McDougal, prior to joining her husband in the firm in 1970, had been employed by Henry S. Day Ford for 19 years. Mr. McDougal died two years ago. The mother of a son, Mrs. McDougal directs activities of the centers four employes, plus additional help for special events. Turning to the days speaker, Chamber members heard a review of the Quality Circle program which was developed in Japan and being dent of the Chamber. Louviere reviewed Heywoods career as a basketball player, having been starting center two seasons at Granger high before going on to Weber State. Heywood started every game for the Wildcats last season when they were Big Sky champions and advanced into the NCAA tournament. He gained honorable mention on the team and was drafted in the sixth round by the Golden State Warriors. He later played pro ball in Brazil and with the Wyoming Wildcatters of the Continental League.
