A new directory for this community (the first since 1981) ' went on sale this week in retail outlets and local utility and banking establishments throughout the area. The booklet, containing all the telephone numbers with the 250 prefix, sports a bright green cover and sells for $1 per copy. It also has an updated classified section, as well as space for additional listings in the back. Prepared and distributed by the Magna Chamber of Commerce, under the direction of Tom Aston and LaRee Pehrson, the directory also contains three familiar buildings from the past. The first, on page 10, is a picture of Carls Club in Garfield, which was torn down in 1957 when the town was 4. Somewhere over the Rainbow is the theme of ninth grade promotional exercises to be held tonight (Thursday) at Kearns junior high, starting at 7 oclock. Natasha Dunham, ninth grade class president, will give the welcoming address. Invocation will be offered by Tami Sahm. Student speakers will include Elena Chan, Mike Cox, Deann Street and David Kenley. The class poem will be recited by Theresa Hatch. A dance, Oh What A Feeling, will be presented by Wendy Rose, Dawn Martinez, Jenny Diamse, Shellie Turner and Myrna Rogas. Dr. Loren G. Burton, Granite district assistant superintendent, will be the guest speaker, with Clive Jensen, director of vocational and career education for the district, as a platform guest. Principal Dr. Elwood Clayton will give the farewell address, followed by the ninth grade class singing Graduation Day. Kathryn Starbuck is in charge of the graduation program. PTSA board members under the direction of Marilyn Madsen will host ninth graders and their parents at a reception following the program. ?' CEDAR phased out. On page 60 there is a picture of the Cyprus Grocery (Bucks Store) and the old Magna Seminary, which were torn down in 1973, to allow for construction of the new Cyprus high auditorium. In addition to the old pictures, there is a condensed version of a national award-winnin- g story on Magna history written in 1973 by Mrs. Pehrson. Beginning today (Thursday) two scout troops headed by Bruce Hunt and Bob Quinn will begin canvassing the area, between 9200 West and 7200 West, selling the books door to door.
