The Cougars dropped an 5 decision to Bingham on Tuesday while on Friday Brighton prevailed Kearns was scheduled to meet 8-- West Jordan yesterday (Wednes- day) but that contest likely fell victim to the weather. Taylorsville is due at Kearns tomorrow (Friday) and Hillcrest visits Monday. Both Bingham and Brighton launched their victory marches with three runs in the first frame. Bingham did not score again until the sixth, breaking open a 3 contest with two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. The Cougars picked up two in the third on base hits by Greg Laufer, Chris Nelson and Gordon Jackson. In the fourth Cody Skinner chased home Cory Snodgrass with a base hit. In the seventh Snodgrass stroked a double after Laufer and Nelson singled. Snodgrass enjoyed a 3x4 day at the plate. Mitchell went the distance for the Cougars while Jay Applegate relieved Bry Foreman in the fourth for the Miners. Against Brighton, Mitchell had a similar outing. Three runs in the first and then three scoreless inning. There were five errors behind him in that one and six against Bingham. The Cougars managed single runs in the second, fifth and seventh frames. Skinner and Jackson had base hits in the second, Glen Carrington in the fifth and Rob Lambert and Laufer in the seventh. 3-- Dodgers Capture Murray 12, Judge 5 Like three earlier wins, Murray waited until the later innings before it got going and put together a victory. For five innings last Wednesdy, Judge southpaw Marty Biljanic had held the Spartans in check. Mixing up his pitches well, he had limited the Spartans to only one run, an unearned one in the second inning. a 7-- 13-1- two-bas- The Cubs moved into a second place tie with the Angels with an 11 7 win over the Cardinals. Travis Burgess was 3x3 and John Oseguera 2x2 to back the pitching of Shane Patrick. He gave up a triple to Cardinal Jeff Wilkerson. The Angels split their games. They defeated the Braves 6 behind the pitching of Shawn Veazie and two base hitting by Curtis Roberts and Thayne 1 10 5 to the Pirates, who were double winners this week. Marc Quintana had a pair of two baggers to back the pitching of Jim Duckworth in the Buc victory over the Angels. Quintana also had a triple, as did winning pitcher Troy Staley in a decision over the Tigers. Vince Lucero also doubled for the winners. For the Tigers, Todd Mills had a triple and a double, while Ryan Lightfoot and Tracy Gallo had two base hits. In the Angel loss to the Pirates, Steve DePew and Deon Santistevan had doubles. The Tigers downed the Cardinals 7 5, with Richard Burrola earning the win. He had relief help from Troy Michaelis. Kim Pehrson and Mills had doubles for the winners; Dick Affleck had one for the losers. A home run and a triple by Greg Zielen-sk- i led the Braves to an 11 8 win over the Giants. Dean Romano also had a double to back the pitching of Mike Peterson. For the losers, Dennis Underwood was 4x4, including a double, who also received doubles from Darren Bills and Troy Kehoe. Coach Bob DePasquales Bulldogs, meanwhile, have been hindered by the weather even more than the Spartans. Rained out Friday at West, they have four games remaining in their bid to oust South for the final playoff spot. The Bulldogs are scheduled to travel today to Tooele for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. They will tangle at Muni tomorrow with the Cubs and Monday with Jordan.
