Show In TO THE MAGNA. Two new members were given seats on the Magna Community Council last week during a monthly meeting of the group. Kathryn Brimley, was appointed to fill a vacancy left by Greg Greg-so- n in District 2 when Gregson moved to the Farmington area. Mrs. Brimley, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat in District 1, has been a member of the council the past two years, serving in a variety of positions. She received unanimous approval from the council to serve as a representative of District 2, since there was no other candidate who ran against Gregson in the election. Unanimous approval was also given to Charles (Chick) Paris, who filed a letter of intent as a representative of the Magna Water and Sewer Improvement District. Active the past 20 years in community affairs, Paris also served for nine years as county fire chief and is beginning a BOND ELECTION - space. Present kindergarten enrollments in the district far exceed sixth grade numbers, decreasing any lead time in solving the situation, Call added. If the voters do not react favorably Tuesday, Call said drastic boundary changes would have to be implemented, double sessions would be established in a number of schools, secondary schools would face extended-da- y programs that limit student selections and there would be extensive busing, shown in two studies to be far less than building. The ballot will contain a simple choice - for or against the issuance of bonds. Careful financial management of the district has resulted in Granite having the highest possible rating for its bonds, resulting in the lowest possible interest rates over the across-the-distri- cost-effecti- years. Polling will be carried out in schools throughout the district through 8 p.m. A listing of polling places is included in this section. Dear editor, I notice in the Feb. 3, 1983 issue that our Planning and Zoning Commission and the Planning and Zoning staff have gone to their bag of dirty tricks again. Now that the commission has approved a business, the staff has tacked on so many conditions that the business cannot succeed. To me, this appears to be harassment rather than productive planning. This kind of action by our City Planning and Zoning Department smells of pure, dirty politics. Im convinced that any elementary third grade class would be more consistent in their actions than, what I perceive as, the group of clowns now acting as our Planning and Zoning Department. E.L. The Utah booth would emphasize the Wasatch Front - Salt Lake County in particular as its hub - as a desirable location for foreign investments, Morris said. No portion of Salt Lake County would be emphasized over another, he added. Salt Lake City Mayor Ted Wilson said the fair could be a great opportunity, expounding on a statement by Morris that areas such as Salt Lake need to be aggressive to attract investment. We can do a lot to help enrich our local economy by being aggressive, he said. Mayors will take the matter to their individual councils to determine if the money can be raised to help sponsor a Utah booth. COG members also were informed that more than 300 people were working in the county's emergency jobs program. County Commissioner Tom Shimizu noted that nearly 1,700 people had applied for the program. COG also supported a memo drafted by County Commissioner Mike Stewart and Sandy Mayor Larry Smith stating that no major government effort could be launched to help fight grasshopper problems in parts of the county this summer. situation. Suspect Charged In Bank Robbery WEST VALLEY. Charges were filed in federal court Friday against a West Valley man accused of the robbery of Capitol City Bank, 3712 W. 3500 South, on Jan. 25. Darren B. Wilkerson, 21, 6328 W. was arraigned before a federal magistrate after being arrested at his home earlier that afternoon by FBI Agent Reed Richards and West Valley Detective Ron Edwards. The filing of three other charges for bank robbery is pending, a West Valley spokesman said. The arrest culminated a joint investigation by the FBI, West Valley, the County Sheriffs office and the West Jordan Police Department, she added. A chance occurrence helped the investigation. On Jan. 20, five days before the bank robbery, West Valley Officer William McCarthy responded to a complaint from Wilkerson about a reckless driver. After the bank robbery, McCarthy was looking through bank camera pictures of the suspect. He told Det. Edwards that Wilkerson resembled the suspect in the robbery, the spokesman noted. This tip, along with a license plate number provided by the bank president, led to Wilkersons arrest, she added. The West Valley man also is a suspect in the Jan. 7 robbery of a Tracy Collins branch in West Valley and banks in Magna and West Jordan.
