Provo residents voted to change the city’s government last summerwith the decision taking effect the first of the year “My job will changein lot of ways,” Ferguson says. “A very large part of it will be administrative, yet I believe some people feel it is legislative. That’s not true. There will be a lot of hours spent on legislative matters though.” Ferguson says he hopes to meet with council before January to work on relations. “T'd like to run a totally opendoor administration. We've worked close as a commission. I hope to do that with the council as weil.” The incumbent admits there will be differences between the two governmentbodies, callingit an ‘adversaryrelationship,” but adds ‘‘it’s a healthy relationship.” “There is nothing that says we can’t sit down together on a involved sibilities to the new council is selecting a chief administrative officer. The new mayor told Berlin he sees no reason why they can’t work well together during the coming months. In January, Orem's councilmanager form of government will be somewhat modified. The city managerwill be the chief executive officer instead of the mayor. As mayor, Squire will be a voting memberof the council. In the past, the Orem mayordid not vote.
