The cocoons are placed in troughs of warm water to soften the silk gum whichholdsthe filaments of the thread together. Filaments from several cocoonsare brought togetherinto a single thread as they are unwound from the cocoon and wound on a reel. The threadsfrom thereel are twisted into a skeinofraw silk. This thread of 10 or 12 filaments is what we call a thread of silk. And that's how silk is made.
