Nikki Pino, who compiled an impressive 26-5 individual record his senior year for the Bulldogs, is expected to earna starting berth for the Thunderbirds in the 126-pound class. “We are excited about the new youngtalent on the squadthis season,” Coach Joe Lopour of SUSC says.“If we can keep our good freshmen progressing, we should build a strong squad."” SUSC is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference which includes colleges from Colorado (Adams State, Colorado Mines, Fort Lewis, Mesa, Regis, and Southern Colorado), New Mexico (New Miexico Highlands and Western New Mexico), and Utah (SUSC). “The RMACis an extremely tough wrestling conference,"’ Lopour explains. ‘Evenfine young wrestlers like Pino will find the step into RMAC wrestling a big one. Nikki, however, has demonstrated excellent skills in our preseasondrills; we are expecting big things from him.”” SUSC’s T-Birds will meet wrestlers from many of the strongest wrestling schols in the West. Among the opponents will be wrestlers from New Mexico, BYU, Utah, Nevada-Las Vegas, and others. While at Provo High, Nikki wrestled for Coaches Mike Bailey and Gary Roylance. During his senior year he led the Bulldog team in takedowns. Nikki was also named the team’s outstanding wrestler; and he was a region champion. Nikki is the son of Jesse and Glenda Pino, 999 N. 1350 West. He hasnotyet selected a major at Southern Utah State Vikings’ Marshall to Retire BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (UPI) — Jim Marshall, the longtime defensive end of the Minnesota Vikings who holds the NFL record for most consecutive games played, announced his retirement lay. Marshall said he will play in the last two games of this season before stepping down after his 20th year in the pros. larshall, 41, has started every regular season and post season game the Vikings have ever played,a totalof 300. ’ The captain of the Vikings’ defensive unit made his announcement at a news luncheon and, after arriving late, asked, ‘Do I get fined?” He said football has been good for him and his retirement was ‘not an easy decision to make, but common sense comes before pride. Today marks a new milestone for me.” Asked abouthis health, Marshall said he was‘capable of playing but I think it’s time. All things ee Vikings Coach Bud Grant praised Marshall’s leadershipqualities and said he had always given 1,000 percent. Atthe heightof his career, the 6-foot4 Marshall was known as a member of Minnesota's “Purple People Eaters.” Joining him at thattimeon the Vikings’ front line were Alan Page, Karl Eller and Gary Larsen. The Purple People Eater era spanned the period from 1967-1974. Marshall is also remembered as the enthusiastic defensive lineman who ran to the wrong end zoneafter recovering a fumble against San Franciscoin 1964. Marshall came to the Vikings just before the 1961 season after playing one year with the Cleveland Browns and one year in Canada. Hewasan All-Americaat OhioState, where he played under retired coach Woody Hayes. Marshallis a native of Danville. A player will be credited with a gamewinning RBI if his hit puts his team ahead to stay regardless of the inning. The game-winning hit was recorded by the 26 clubsthis past season but was not an official statistic. Also, the Rules Committee announced Tuesday that a new suspended gamerule will be in ef- i fect this year.
