Jenkins of Orem,assistant professor in theatre and cinematic arts at Brigham Young University, has been named Professor of the Month Society. Professor Jenkins waspresented a plaque at Tuesday’s Forum assembly by Julie Landon, a member of the Blue Key Selection Committee anda senior in communicative disorders and education from Shelley, Ida. Recipients of the Professor of the Month award are eligible for the Professor of the Year honor in April. The Selection Committee receives monthly nominations from students. Professor Jenkins, a well-known poet and actress, is a native of Milford, Beaver County. She was graduated from BYU in 1947 with a bachelor’s degree in dramatics and languages and a minorin English. After being widowed in 1963, she returned to BYU for graduate work while rearing her twochildren, then ages seven and 10. At that time, she served as a graduate assistant and later taught full time in the Communications Department before movingto the related fields of theatre and communicativearts. She received the M.A. degree at BYU in 1963 in rhetoric and public address with a minor in interpretation. Currently she is working on a Ph.D. degree. Professor Jenkins has acted in numerouscivic and BYU plays, narrated many concerts and radio programs,presented a widely acclaimed poetry and interpretation program throughout the United States, and has been a national reader for the National Federation ofState Poetry Societies, Inc. She recently directed the BYU production of “Anastasia” and played the role of Constance Everett in the NBC television film “Christmas Lillies of the Field”’ to be aired Dec. 16.
