The first two mills levied would bring J878.400 from matching state funds. The state money comes from a uniform school fund distributed lo school districts which do not have a sufficient tax base to support an educational program comparable to other districts. When salaries around Davis County arc higher, the best teachers will tend to migrate to those salaries. This is already . beginning to happen. Education in Davis County will suffer. NOW, HAVING said this I have to admit I usually fed there is some waste in all governments. Surely with a budget of around $60,000,000 and no need to make a profit as business must do, there must be some areas that could be cut. The school board has attempted to make some. However, the strong words from the Utah Taxpayers Associa-- . tion have left me a little perplexed. Tooele County is holding a leeway election now, and it certainly isnt operated any better than Davis Schools. But I have heard no criticism of that area. Just Davis County. I WONT attempt to cover their objections except to say I dont believe Davis schools have lived because of federal funds. No, I rather suspect that over the years the residents of Davis County have paid much more to educate than the federal funds have paid for. So it seems to come down to this: Do we want to let education in Davis County begin the big slip toward pedagogical poverty, or are we determined to have eminent education? YOU WILL help make that choice on Thursday. I urge you to vote for maintaining education. Vote yes. A i (i4 1,4 1 I. f EDF.RAL regulations require that schools do many things not .required in former times. There are programs, good programs in most cases, that take extra money. 2.
