YUGOSLAV STUDENT VISITS The halls and some of the classrooms of Clearfield High School were lighted up a little - extra this past year with the radiance of a most personable Yugoslavian girl who attended the school. LIDIJA SCESKAR, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bos-k- o Sceskar of Belgrade, . Y ugoslavia, has been the guest this past year of Mr. and Mrs. Revere Chambers of cuse. Syra- Mr. and Mrs. Chambers are the parents of two sons and two daughters all married with small families of their own, but they have returned home often enough to keep it most interesting for Lidija. of the faculty at Clearfield and states that they are wonderful She was a member of the folk dance company at the school and expressed much love for the group. In Yugoslavia she was a member of a similar group. her stay here most memorable She thinks the Chambers are absolutely the most fantastic people one could ever spend a year with LIDUA SAYS that the students here have much more freedom and the school work is much easier than what she was used to in her native land. The students here have more fun dunng their school hours. She comes from a small family. She has one sister who is 21 and completing her college years. groups and other places where she has tried to teach others about her native country, their way of life, schools and culture. THE CHAMBERS made opportunities for her to see other parts of the U.S. They took her to California, where she enjoyed Disneyland, to BEFORE COMING to the U.S. she had completed II years of schooling in her native - land. While attending Yugoslav Lidija Sceskar, student, has spent the past year amongst north Davis County residents and has attended Clearfield High School. And while she mightve liked to don herself in it more often, this native costume, worn originally by her grandmother, could only be worn on special occasions Clear- Arizona, the Grand Canyons and southern Utah parks This coming weekend an outing is planned at Flaming Gorge. On July 6, Lidija will be 18 years old and a family party is being planned for her. Many friends in the Syracuse Second Ward have assisted in making field High she studied United States History, Western His- tory, American Literature, child development and homeliving, and psychology. The Wells attended the US Sports Acrobatics Federation Nationals, which were held at Arizona State Umv , Tempe, Aiz , June They will be featured with a special interview on Sports Saturday as the largest family m the U mted States to enter sports acrobatics competition 5-- Layton Cnstie Day, daughter of Mr and Mrs Kirk Day, spent last week in Morgan visiting with her cousins, Lisa and Amy Meacham They are the children of Jackie and Steve Meacham. Cristies brother, Garth Day, traveled to USU in Logan to attend a special foot- ball school coached by profes- sional football players Miss Dana Cowley, daughter of Mr and Mrs Hal Cowley, received fourth runnerup recognition Saturday evening in the Miss Utah contest She is the reigning Miss Layton. FOUR OF the Wells seven children, Mike, Holly, Lisa, and Mindy, as well as mother Patty and father Joe entered the competition Amazing the judges with her ability to compete and perform was Mrs. Wells, who gave birth to her seventh child just five weeks prior to the national competition . The entire family, including the baby, Danny, and two other younger children, Cnssy and Melissa, will be featured on CBS Sports acrobatics, which is done in pairs, trios, and fours, is a sport in the US It combines the dance and tumbling movements of gymnastics floor exercise with a series of difficult lifts, balances, pitches, tosses, and catches. The Wells placed as follows Holly and Joe, 6th in Senior Mixed Pairs; Holly and Mindy, 7th in Jr. Womens Pairs, Joe and Mike, 8th in Sr Mens pairs; and Patty and Lisa placed ninth in Sr. Womens Pairs. The USSAF Meet was the largest sports acrobatics nationals to be held in the US so far. THE WELLS mixed trio of Mike, Holly, and Lisa were featured a year ago on CBS Sports Spectacular as a result of their competition at the 5th USSAF Nationals which were held at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where they placed third, and Mike placed first on the double mini trampoline at the same meet. In 1979 the Wells mixed pair of Mike and Lisa received a standing ovation for their performance at nationals in Santa Monica, Calif , where they received fourth place m Jr. Mixed Pairs competition. She has good reasons to be proud Cory Courtney, son of Mr and Mrs Robert C. Courtney, received a $13,000 scholarship to the college or university of his choice The family lives in Denton, Texas and this is the finest scholarship ever presented from there Cory is a student council officer. He was vice president his senior year and a member of the track and cross country teams He was a member ol the National Honor Society and a member of Whos Who among American high school students He received an award for distinguished service to Denton High School and a certificate of merit for outstanding accomplishments m math for a male student This honor included a scholarship to Texas Weslayan College at Fort Worth He also received a scholarship from the Texas Council of Churches that was to be honored at any church-relate- d ir" i irrt I. Mr and Mrs Cliff Blood attended the funeral service of her mother, Mrs. Ivy Ballan-tyn- e Child held in Ogden Saturday. Mrs. Child died June 17 and was 93 years old It was a double heartbreak for the family as Mrs. Childs son, Don Ballantyne Child of Riverdale, age 59, died at his home the same day. His funeral was held along with his mothers at the Chapel of Flowers in Ogden. Mr. and Mrs. LaVar Godfrey and his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Godfrey of Clark-sto- n spent ten days in Royal Oak, Mich, with Mr. and Mrs. LaVar Godfreys daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Chris Merkley and family.
