His coach had high hopes of his star placing high in the state tournament, but things just didn't work out for him. "To be honest about it I was in aw e at the state meet. Ste bombs kept on falling breaking Washington in two and wden it was dalftime f THE BYU senior who led his Cougars to a 6 over Washington State in the fourth annual Holiday Bowl left last Saturday for Hawaii with BYUs head coach, LaVell Edwards. The two will enjoy a week of golf in the Hawaiian sunshine then prepare for the Hula Bowl on Jan. 9. That contest will be televised by ABC television. Then the following Saturday, Jan. 16, Jim will be in Mobile, Ala. with his parents as he prepares for the Senior Bowl. They were off to Hawaii to enjoy a week of golf before heading into the nationally televised Hula Bowl on Jan. 9th. With LaVell as a coach and Jim as a quarterback, this would be the final time that the veteran Cougar coach would be able to direct Jims action from the sidelines. Most of us probably have little idea of what emotionalism that evolves around that Jan. 9th game. McMahon Prepares For Bowl Games Some say it was Jim's spirit tdat made tdem mrk so dard. THE FEW days Jim was able to spend with his family last Thursday and Friday were something both he and his family were able to cherish. After weeks of breaking records on the gridiron and being a special guest for everyone else, Christmas was a blessing in disguise. Jim and Roberta McMahon certainly enjoyed their sons brief but welcomed stop home. Everyone enjoyed him being here, said Mr. McMahon, Its been sometime since weve had everyone home in such a relaxed environment.
