She is of the park project. - LAYTON Saturday morning, Oct. 2, was a special day for Layton residents living in the Camclot Subdivision. AT 9 A.M. ceremonies were held to break ground for the Layton Community Pride Park. This is not an ordinary city park. It is a park created because of the volunteer efforts of many individual citizens, youth and adult service groups, the Layton city council, the Layton parks and recreations staff and the U.S. Air Force 508th Civil , Engineering squadron. Concerned citizens living in Camclot Subdivision approached the Layton City Council last spring requesting permission to fund a $5,000 project which would turn a n strip of land and the freeway the subdivision bordering into a community park and playground. THIS MONEY is joined by $700 from a neighborhood citizenship fund. According to Tawna Nielson, 1786 N. 1450 W., Layton, Ann Harris, the Layton City Councilmember in charge of parks and planning, the money will be added to by other projects until the $5,000 needed to finance the park is raised. 4-- H MRS. NIELSON is a of the park project. The Hill Air Force Base 508th Civil En- gineering squadron will donate man hours and equipment necessary to clear the land set aside for Community Pride Park. Originally the clearing operations were to begin immediately following the Saturday morning ground-breakin- g ceremony. Actual work was delayed because of the bad weather. TWO HUNDRED fifty dollars has been donated to the project by Jenefer Rowley, Davis County H Citizenship Club leader. THE PARK design was drawn up by City Planner Scott Carter after several meetings with citizen committees. In antf- . iU Vi THE CITIZENS worked with Layton government officials and officials from the Department of Transportation to get title to the useless property. The park is to be totally financed by concerned citizen groups. In addition to adults, clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other groups will be involved in building and maintaining the park. 4-- an Pride is the greatest thing in America.
