Show 1984 Farm and Cardan Edition Mauangar-Entarprli- s members of the Utah Quilt Guild are eligible to enter. The 1984 quilt contest will include a "special feature category, designed to highlight star patterns with a special heirloom and new star H 50 E. Main Salina 529-705- 0 quilt display. Quilt contestants may select a star pattern or patterns for this new category. The feature pattern will change each year. A $75 prize will be awarded in the special feature category. The Festival of the American West quilt show will also be restructured in the large and small quilt categories. The classes include pieced, applique or mixed techniques, including embroidery, whole cloth quilting with the exception of preprinted fabric or tricot quilts. Machine applique quilts will not be accepted. Area contests will be judged by members of the Utah Quilt Guild during the first week of July. Judging will place emphasis on design, creativity and the degree of difficulty. Mother's Day Sale First prizes in each of the four classes will be $70 in the large quilt section, and $30 in the small quilt category. The Best of Show winner will be awarded $200. Ttiurs., May 3 thru Weds., May 9 Viewers attending the show will choose a Peoples Choice prize, which will be awarded during the Everything in the Gtore fl to 5 reception honoring quilt exhibitors August 4 at noon. Area entrants and winners will receive certificates or ribbons and the chance to compete in the state contests. ?? Handouts prepared by the Utah Quilt Guild will be available on a variety of quilt procedures, new methods and ideas. Extension home economists will not participate in area contests, but will distribute entry information and serve as a drop off point for area quilts. The Cooperative Extension service has had an important part in the quilt show since it first began under the direction of Theta Johnson in 1976, Linda Tipton has been the coordinator for the past three years. with more to be scheduled later. The first ride will be in the hills west of Manti and no one has been appointed trail master for this ride as yet. It will be on May 12th. Elaine Reed will be the trail master for a ride to be held on June 9th in the Ephraim area. July 14th will be the date for a ride east of Mt. Pleasant and Arlene Christensen will be trail master for this ride. In August a ride will be held in the Spring City area with Rickell James Irish and Judi Reynolds taking charge and selecting a trail. The Sanpete County Trail Riders was the name selected for a new riding club which was organized recently.
