On the opening possession of the game. Rich drove down to midfield, but then the tough Manti defense dug in. and forced the Rebels to turn the ball over on downs. Three play s later. Templars QB Kenny Cox hit Brady Nielson on a 50 yard TD bomb to give Manti a 0 lead On Richs next offensive possession, the 7-- determined Templar defense forced the Rebels to go 3 and out. The Templars then drove 65 yards down the field and capped off their drive w ith a 2 yard TD run by Kenny Cox that gave Manti a 14-- 0 lead after 1 quarter. In the 2nd Quarter, the Templars defense kept domina ing, forcing Rich to turn the ball over on downs and punt tw ice, and Jesse Strickland also had a remarkable interception. Late in the 2nd Quarter, Strickland scored on a 15 yard TD run to gie the Templars a 2 0 lead going into the half In the 3rd Quarter. Manti scored 2 more touchdowns, and did not allow Rich's star running back. Zanc Groll. to get on track. She loves Manti High School and has enjoyed it so far. Chris has participated in many activities throughout her high school years She has been involved in student government, band, speech and drama, jour- - Overcoming an illness teen cancer patients, each taky ing a parent, went to this Each has a child camp. sponsor that pay s for their flight and anything else that was not ten-da- covered by other donations Jamie Leslie By:Jean Cluff For those of you who to stay up see the Channel Five 10.00 News, you may have recently seen a familiar face. On Thursday, the 29th of October, Jamie Leslie was in one of their feature stories. The story was all about a camp in Big Sky, Montana. The camp was for children who are undergoing or have recently undergone treatments for cancer. This camp is called the Big Skv Kids Eieh- - She has also attended a camp called Camp Hobc in June 1997. In this camp she was a Junior counselor for the kid's week. These camps encourage the patients by letting them associate with others that have or are going through these treatments. Jamie also went with the Team in Training to the Rock-n-Ro- ll Marathon in San Diego. She was the Desert Mountain Chapter resentative. Team runs marathons to for the Leukemia patient repin Training raise money Socictv of America 6.000 TNT runners participated in this marathon, raising ovcr$15, 000.000 for the Leukemia Society. Jamie was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in July of 1996. In February 1997 she completed chcmo and radiation therapy. Some people think of cancer as an automatic death sentence but Jamie has learned otherwise. Jamie has battled her way through a lot of hardship, and through it all she has found that a lot of good came through something thought of bad She has also received a lot of Through her ordeal she has gained a greater appreciation for life, and for those who have faced cancer in their lives nahsm. FHA, FBLA. and Nl IS Chris has had many during her years at MHS, such as being named Academic in tennis, being a National Merit Semi-finist. and being the editor of the All-Sta- te al yearbook this year Chris attended a conference on Americanism at Valley Forge which was sponsored by the American legion Auxiliary and was also selected to participate at Girl's State She traveled to'Francc as part of Rotary International s mini exchange program. She is a member of Manti Youth City Coun- younger. I le also has a little sister that was born on his sixteenth birthday Jason has been active in track for Ml IS I Ic took second at state in the 400 meter dash. He just finished up a terrific football season for the Manti High football team and is n for his speed and work great foot Jason likes it here at Manti hgh School and a lot of the teachers think he is an excellent student. well-know- 1 cil Chris has worked as a hfegaurd at the Snow College Activty Center where she also taught swimming lessons. Chris is the president of her Laurel class and she is the accompanist for the ward choir. Jason Madsen is the son of Kim Maguire and Mitch Madsen of Ephraim. He has been active in sports for all of his high school career and despite his busy schedule, Jason keeps a 3. 1 GPA. There arc six kids in his family. He has a twin brother, one brother that is three years younger than him, and two brothers that are thirteen years ' V Takesha Cox: was selected o the 1st team division A 2-- 411-Sta- te volleyball team wd was invited to participate in the All-Stgame, which will be played Nov 20 it the University of Utah. ar |
