The Wildcats put up a tough fight against the Darts. Woods Cross had nothing to lose. It was their last game at home and they put all their effort in trying to upset a strong Dart 14-- 6 team. But with all the effort the Cats still came out short in the scoring category as they saw their upset plans float away from them. I feel bitter for my teams sake, said Wildcat Coach Larry Eldracher. In a lot of ways I thought we played better than Davis. In the first half we moved the ball real well. They stunted on us a bit, but we covered it fairly well. The Wildcats moved the ball with style against the Darts early in the game. Quarterback Blake Anderson used Mike Egan and Jeff Buxton to run the ball toward the goal. When the run became cold, Anderson would pass to Doyle Hauter. Using 13 various plays and one pass interference call against Davis, the Wildcats were able to get close enough to throw a short pass to Hauter for the first touchdown. A high snap on the PAT attempt forced kicker Todd Dyson to try and run around the end for a two point conversion. His attempt failed but Woods Cross was ahead of the Darts 6-- 0. t L. I wtmnm The drive was executed with polish and determination. Woods Cross was able to push Davis front defensive line without any trouble. The Wildcats were in a dream ; a dream of really doing some damage to the stronger Davis crew. But the fantasy lasted for only a few seconds longer. Taking the ensuing kickoff, Darts Spencer d line all the DeGraw ran from the way past the Wildcats for a TD. Woods Cross balloon deflated quickly. Davis attempt at a PAT was no good and the score remained at a 6 tie for the remainder of the first half. Coach Eldracher felt his players became too loose during the second half. Roy will travel to Sky View Friday for a crucial game with the Bob Cats. The winner of that game will claim second-plac- e in Region one, and will enjoy the home-fieladvantage in a play-of- f game with a number three team from Region three. The loser will travel to Salt Lake City to play a number two team to get into the Utah State 4A finals. Clearfield also has an important game. For the coaches and players, the last game of the season might seem incidental, but the Fal free-safet- d Dp cons will be playing their archrival, the Layton Lancers. Clears field and Layton are both in Region one football so the loser of this game has the dubious honor of finishing in the cellar. You can bet that both the Falcons and Lancers will be playing as if it were for the region championship. It might well be the best game in Region one this year.
