County Chamber of Commerce, Nelson said one of tin Inmost challenges facing the chamber is participation by its members. (Jetting people to show up is the biggest challenge. We want to lx able to help businesses to meet (heir goals, Nelson said. In listing the three key goals for the chamber in tin coming year Nelson said they were to: (Jet people out and involved; to help businesses to grow; and to work together on tourism issues. The feeling by many that Emery County is on the verge of a major change is shared by Nelson. Something is going to happen in the county and its going' to drag us all in. have a feeling it is going to be positive. Change 1 think weve got I provides for unique some good but weve got to be stronger. Strength- ening the Chamber and its ability to help is a high priority for Nelson in the coming year. He said in the past the Chamber of Commerce has been blamed by some as being ineffective and small, but it is a perception that he and the board of the Chamber of Commerce are going to work hard to change. Everybody that has anything to do with a business should feel comfortable to get involved. As a chamber we need to start making statements about issues in the county. I want the chambers voice to be heard on issues, one way or the other, Nelson said. With a new office on Main Street in Castle Dale, the Chamber is working to encourage new membership and work together as business owners to promote the county. The new board of the Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting recently and Nelson said he was encouraged by the enthusiasm of the board members and the ideas they shared for the coming year. board members and I was pleased with the direction of the talk, but I dont want three more meetlike it. Lets stop ings just somedo and talking thing, he said. Nelson said he hopes the Chamber of Commerce can develop a stronger and more mutually beneficial relationship with the county and cities in the coming year. As for business growth and expansion in the county, it will be up to the chamber to find ways to help and encourage businesses to the area. I like the attitude of if I put it here they will come, said Nelson. But its tough. Getting people to stay and shop locally is difficult because it is so easy for people to go over to Price for something and do other things as well. Capturing local con- sumer dollars and keeping them in the county is a challenge. Sometimes I think our businesses dont make themselves as visible as they should. Nelson pointed to the Business of the Year and the New Businesses of the Year as examples of business owners taking risks and doing their best to be noticed. Think of the new businesses of the year and the new business of the year, of the investments theyve made. Id like to get the entire county to think along those lines. The key is to not be afraid to try new things, he said. Castle Service Wilcox Laundry Castle Service would like to thank everyone for their support.
