Welcoming a son into their Clerk Comity Resigns FARMINGTON After 16 years of dedicated public service, Rodney Walker, county clerk, is going to retire. Mr. Walker presented a letter to the County Commission last week announcing his intent with great reluctance to withdraw from public service effective June 30. ACCORDING to a new state statute, the Davis County GOP Central Committee will now have to submit three names of potential replacements to the County Commission. The commission will then select one of the three to serve out the rest of the year. The new clerk will then have to fde for election in 984 rather than serving out the whole of Mr. Walkers term. If elected, the new clerk r will only serve an initial term rather than the usual four year term. 1 THE MOVE came as a surprise to the commission since Mr. Walker still has two and a half years lent in his current term of office. Were quite taken back, said Commission Chairman Glen Saunders. Mr. Walker had given no prior indication of his desire to leave office. Mr. Walker, 65, admits that this is a sudden decision. Although his letter does not state any specific reasons for his decision, Mr. Walker indicated that one consideration was for his future health. MY WIFE and I have been talking the past week and weve decided that we just want to do a few things while we still can, he said. He added that he had originally talked about retiring after the current year but didnt want to leave the county without an experienced clerk during a general election. "By retiring now, my replacement will have time to become familiar with the election process before being thrown into one, he said. two-yea- I AGO w hen I filed for full intended four a serve to fully year term, said Mr. Walker.
