But having been a college THE TWO time Clearfield state champion was a junior high wrestler in the state of Nebraska. Perhaps because of that Doug has always had aspirations of wrestling at a college in Nebraska. One of the Nebraska schools included the University of Nebraska at Omaha which couldn't match the kind of scholar wrestler myself I didn't think the scholarship opportunities would be available in two years as they are now. I just told Doug it wouldn't be smart to pass up a scholarship now, said Tennis a former U. of U. wrestling star. Tennis points out that college wrestling in Utah has become more competitive than ever in recent years, however, these programs do not rank nationaly like the Nebraska school does. "But talked to Doug about Weber State and the value they placed on the recruitment of high school kids in Utah. told him how John Webb is interested in building the Wildcat program with local talent. He was a high school coach in Utah and his overall interest in Utah high school wrestling is unmatched, continued Tennis. and that local fans would support him in his four years at Weber State. Tennis gave the example of former Lancer Brad Isom who starred at Weber State College as a wrestler and now ironically serves there as a coach. "I don't know if Doug would like to coach high school wrestling someday but think there would be a place for him in this area, said Tennis. 1 THE FIVE year Clearfield coach said Weber State was just the place for Doug.
