Remember, we King of didn't win the league last year, so the guys want it this season. 9 9 the Baseball Battles -- Dave Wigham Phil Olsen Senior Dave Wilson is slated as the designated hitter, but is also available to step in just about anywhere on the field and contribute. Clipper Sports BOUNTIFUL In all his years of coaching baseball at Bountiful Phil Olsen has never had to face the problem staring him straight in the eve before. That is to say, his club is on the wanted list of most other high school clubs Bountiful was the state champions a year ago and, much like the old West, all the other schools are out to knock of the big guns. Phil really doesnt mind though, because, the players under his guidance can handle the pressure. Bountiful has the luxury of being able to come at you from both sides of the mound. Senior Phillip Schmutz is a right hander who the colleges are di oiling over while junior Steve Luddington throws with the left hand. These are the two standouts of the pitching staff that features seven arms. pride rather than conceit. In reflecting back on the past sports season, here are two to remember: (comments why athletic scholarships in the college ranks are worth the price), Of course there are many who think scholarships for athletes are a waste of time But many people dont realize the time athletes spend to achieve those rewards It's the same on the high school level, the kids there w ork very hard also SOME OF the jealous peodont realize that the kids are working four and five hours in practices after school when they could be working for themselves Maybe part of the problem is that some people classify athletes as dumb jocks. They don't realize though, that most athlete GPAs are above average and getting better all the time. Most schools have an academic standard to work by so its hard to cheat the system Most of them are better students because they know how to pay the price. ple PEOPLE ARE going to categorize because of what one or two bad apples do. $5 ."t- A g:: Head Coach Bient HanCock, Clearfield CL RTIS CARMAN, the junior lefty, was the big story for the Woods Cross club Not only did he limit the Davis bats to just two hits, but he also drove in what turned out to be the winning run Chns Mackev, of the Darts, took the loss.
