Her hobbies are music, art, hiking, skiing and n painting on the wall of his office in Bountiful City Hall and there is another of his paintings on the wall of the reception area for the mayor and city manager. Layne says he loses to paint and gets frustrated when he sees a particular scene, under ideal lighting conditions, and doesn't have the time or the brushes with him to paint the scene. SO AS a substitute, he often carries his camera with him and photographs a particular scene. The scene depicted in the accompanying picture of this story was painted from the coxer of a hook he purchased sex eral years ago in California. "I enjoy painting scenery, he says. "It's a means of releasing my emotions and tensions as well as accomplishing something. And because of my love for landscape artistry, I am able to enjoy the outdoors more now than ever before. HE WON first place in a Bountiful Handcart Days contest recently with a painting of an old barn located in west Layton. He later sold the painting to the owner of the barn. Layne has nexer entered a painting in a state contest but says he will someday. Asked if he has painted that "awardwinning" entry, he said. "PARTLY. I started the painting about nine years ago.
