STEED Celebrating 60 Years of Banking Services in the Clearfield Area Harold C. Steed since 1969, began his career as a teller with Clearfield State Bank in 1946 following service as an Army Officer in WWII. He Is a graduate of Utah State University and is active in community affairs having served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club, A City Councilman, a member of the Weber State College Institutional Council and now is a member of the Board of Trustees of Davis North Medical Center and a member of the Clearfield Stake Presidency. He is married to the former Grace Minson and they have four children. Organized when World War I was at its height, Clearfield State Bank has served as both a reservoir and a pump to the ' economy of North Davis County ever since. Through good times and bad it has withstood the many .changes that have taken place; including the pressures of inflation, and has remained steadfast not only through the pleasures of prosperity, but also through the deepest of depressions. , Except when all were closed by banks the govern- ment during the infamous bank holiday of 1933, the Clearfield State Bank has opened its doors and its heart to the public every banking day since it began in 1917. . 0. Because the Bank has experienced growth and proven successful after such an unlikely beginning it is a tribute to the foresight of the original founders and to the industry, good judgment and integrity of the management and staff ol the bank who, through good times and bad, havi served the public well. Raised in Idaho in a Walter W. Steed Jr. was one of the founders and former president of Clearfield State Bank and the first employee. He served as Chief Executive Officer for 57 years and his leadership provided the foundation for the growth we experience now. 1886-196- 9, Jesse D. Barlow, Chairman of the Board of Directors, has served in many areas of the bank during the past 60 years. WAYNE TH0RN0CK President Chairman of the Board bankers family, he en- tered the banking business early working in management positions in banks in the Boise area. He joined Clearfield State Bank in 1960 as a junior officer and has served well in many capacities. He has been engaged in community service, presently being President of the Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Davis County Library Board and Bishop of his ward. He is married to the former EuVola Tibly and they have three children. Another milestone With the completion of the new main office building and the moving of our complete Clearfield Operation into it, Clearfield State Bank passes another milestone and has created a new landmark for the community. This is the second move for the Bank both moves enforced by a need to enlarge our quarters to provide our customers with more comfortable and convenient facilities. This move, simultaneous with the banks Sixtieth Anniversary, is particularly significant. The completion of the new building marks the fourth major building project since the decision to establish a branch in Sunset was made. That office was completed in 1963. Structures in Syracuse and Clinton followed as preparation was made for them and, with this new facility, four completely modern Banking offices now serve the public in North Davis County. All are thoroughly in design, and in and service are of adequate and capabilities, security size to handle substantial growth. They are well situated and well maintained, and well staffed with knowledgable, understanding workers. Downtown Landmark new The facility which provides double the space of the present building was constructed by the Bank Building Corprincipally poration using local suppliers subcontractors. and The style and color of the building blends well with the community surroundings and adds beauty to the downtown area. Convenient customer parking is available adjacent to the building. The substantial investment in the new home office building evidences the faith the officers and directors have in the continued growth of the area Bank President, Harold Steed, says, We look to the future in new surroundings with confidence. Contemporary Design The banks two story, twelve thousand square foot structure will serve Clearfield area residents with seven inside teller windows and six drive-u- p windows. The structure features the most modern security arrangements including two large vaults for records, documents, deposits and other valuables. Clearfield State Banks building is open and airy and it provides inner offices for open expression in privacy. The new building exterior features a white fluted concrete surface with rounded contemporary-desigat all three entrances. Bronze canopies cover each doorway with solar bronze glass above. Six drive-icustomers can be served at one time under the sheltered bronze canopy covering six drive-u- p stations. Planting areas surround the new building with adequate off street parking stalls available to serve all our suburban, customers. n auto-oriente- d Historic Time Capsule The interior reflects the contemporary intent of the design yet maintains a sense of the traditional with the use of warm colors in familiar, yet updated patterns. Most of the floor covering is carpeting, but the lobby properly uses brick plate tile that extends up the front of the teller counters with carpeting attached to the soft round corners. Most furnishings feature the contemporary with the desks emphasizing clean straight lines and the guest chairs providing a soft contrast of curvilinear lines. 1918 847,540 1940 $391,782 1950 1960 1970 Clearfield State Bank is preparing at time capsule to tie implanted in the foundation of the new home office at 180 South State Street. During the open house, Friday, October 14, Bank Officials will conduct a sjiecial historical ceremony at 5 p.m. and seal the time capsule in the East entrance stone. The community is invited to submit historical material and students from Hillfield, South Clearfield, Wasatch, Pioneer Elementary schools and North Davis Junior High and Clearfield High School are gathering historic memorabilia including photographs, newspaper articles of local and national interest and other items of historical significance. Many Clearfield old folks, in conjunction with the Heritage Center, are also joining in the project. A brief history of the bank and the community will also be sealed in the time capsule for the benefit of future generations.
