Show -- WEEKLY REFLEX-DAV- IS NEWS JOURNAL, SEPTEMBER 15. 1977 Heal Committee HI LnJ Censures Firemen An incident in which a test was allegedly taken during the course of a TV certification course, has led the Davis County Emergency Medical (EMS) Executive Committee to recommend that one mans EMT license be subject to one years probation while six other firemen received letters of reprimand. DR. JAN Freeman, chairman of the Davis County EMS council said late last week that a letter recommending that action to the state EMS council had been drafted after the executive council had met in two sessions last week to determine their course of action. The council recommended that Bountiful Fire Chief Darrell Mcllrath's emergency medical technician license be subject to one years probation. Six other firemen have been sent letters of reprimand, Dr Freeman said. LATE Tuesd ay, Jim Hendrickson, coordinator of training for the Utah State EMS council said the stale had received the letter written by the committee. We probably will follow the recommendation of the local council.' Letters of reprimand were sent to three firemen from the South Davis County Fire Department and three from Bountiful City Fire Depart- ment. Emergency medical technicians to receive letters of are Dale reprimand McCarthy, J. Bradley Orgill and Dick Baggett, South Davis Fire Department and Michael Barfuss, Weston Butterfield and Ronald Hatch of the Bountiful City Fire Department. THE INCIDENT involving the seven men came about when an official test for the course supplied by the state EMS office was reported missing. Dr. Freeman said it was brought to his attention during the course of the modular training class, that a test had been taken. He said that as a result of this information, the lest was not used. Since the test was compromised, another test was made up, Dr. Freeman said, since his objective was in providing the training, he felt the matter was settled with the provision for another final exam. ; t u IN THE meantime a letter was sent to the state agency reporting the incident. This action forced the executive council to act on the matter, het said. Alan Parker of the statei agency confirmed that the letter had been received, but said that the local council was asked to act on the matter first. Dr. Richard Johns, ad- New CDJH Teachers ministrator of the Davis County Board of Health and a up of committee heads from the total council, met twice in Davis solos and other trophies for her orkette participation. In commenting on the matter, Chief Mcllrath said, when he picked up the examination from the table, he assumed it was a practice exam. He admitted leaving the room with the test. Several days later he said he discovered it was the actual test. At that point he dropped out of the class. No one had the intent to cheat, he said. SHE IS the daughter of Mrs. Amber Harrison Davis. He assumed it was only a practice exercise. Mr. Hendrickson said the state council views the problem as a serious matter since physicians in the emergency room must rely on the technicians who become the eyes, ears and hands of the physician. He said the skills learned in the IV modular class are important. Hendrickson said, while he feels very reluctant to take action the state agency will probably go with the recommendation of the local council.
