Show Page Four - The Pyramid - July 22, 1998 Self healing is philosophy of MATR Pine Creek Ranch pain and abuse issues, etc., and we strive to create as many opportunities as are necessary for total healing to occur. " She is quick to stress that Pine Creek Ranch is not a lock-u- p facility. Although MATR works closely with the courts and other entities within the Utah state governmental systems, many clients come voluntarily because they want physical and mental wellness in their lives. For people to achieve that total wellness, family and friends must be included in the treatment, and Pine Creek Ranch offers family members an opportunity to be part of their loved ones healing processes. Ms. Dimmick related that MATR operates on the premise that because individuals have specific problems, they also harbor within themselves the solutions to those problems and the abilities to overcome them. Before coming to MATR or other treatment programs, many people try unsuccessfully to "correct" their own problems through (drug and alcohol abuse), or through committing criminal acts. Some of those individuals may suffer from ADHD or other physical or mental disorders. One of the treatment levels offered to clients is "Bridge Back to Self", which allows individuals to identify their own behaviors, attitudes, and the beliefs that might have led to addictions or criminal behavior, and then to manage those behaviors with self-hel-p techniques. "It is our goal to guide them through this process," Dimmick MT. PLEASAN- T- To the casual observer, the secluded mountain retreat at Pine Creek Ranch could be for private family recreation. Outdoor facilities offer a double tennis court, volleyball court, horseshoe pit, swimming pool, and 12 sites for RV parking. An inviting lodge and on-sicottage appear to be ideal for large family gatherings. In reality, Pine Creek Ranch provides self healing and recreation fpr individuals and families, through a self-hel-p program called MATR (Measures of Affect Theoretically Relative). "At Pine Creek Ranch, we are dedicated to the healing process of the individual, family and the 'community," reports Linda Dim-micRN, a member of the board of directors of MATR, state Inc., a private licensed organization which deals with alcohol and substance abuse and other stress related treatments. MATR offers a variety of services to suit individual needs: a Residential Program, which includes psychosocial classes, nutritional counseling and guidance in mending cherished relationships; Day Treatment for similar services on an outpatient basis; Social Detoxification to help achieve sobriety through the means of general medical monitoring and nutrition; and an Outpatient Program that includes individual and group therapies and counseling. "Were not just a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center," Dimmick explained during an interview last week." We help clients control thinking errors, te k, non-prof- .v strengths, abilities and talents to help bridge the gap to wellness. Dimmick and Janey Marvin, a certified psychiatric technician, help therapists, doctors, nurses and counselors direct client treatment at the ranch. Dimmick has worked with youth for 30 years, and was employed at the Utah State Hospital as a psychiatric nurse. Marvin has worked in the mental health field for over 19 years and has held several positions at the Utah State Hospital and at the Utah Developmental Center. To help fund the treatment center at MATR Pine Creek Ranch, the ranchs recreation facilities are open to the public. The swimming pool is open from 2 to 8 p.m. with family night on Monday from 6 to 9. The pool may also be reserved before 2 p.m. or after 8 p.m. Family passes are available.
