Mark has accepted a position with Raytheon Corporation in Dallas, IX Pageant attenders to see new costumes companies, making these scenes an even more amazing spectacle for the viewer. "The wonderful part about the new things happening with the costumes is that we have the capacity to have so many more people in the Pageant. There is more opportunity than ever for people to come and " participate as cast members. Last year, the costume committee moved into the commissary building in back of the Manti Tabernacle. They now have a completely automated costume sewing facility. Until this hannened. the women of the committee and other volunteers did all of the work on the costumes at home, using their own machines. As President Cluff says, "It really is because of the time and effort of these women that the costumes in the past and these new costumes have added, so much. MANTI The Mormon Miracle Pageants costume committee is now in the fourth of a five-yeprogram to remake all of the costumes in the Pageant. This year they are redoing the costumes for the Nephite warriors, and there will be an entirely new set of costumes for the "creation scene". "Well also be remaking the costume for one of the most memorable pageant characters," says Linda Wheeler, chairman of the costume committee. "Well be redoing Angel Moroni atop the temple. We are really excited to work on this." Although the costumes for the Mormon Miracle Pageant are made by a dedicated corp of about 40 volunteers, their work is often mistaken for the work of highly-pai- d Hollywood designers. "Its not easy." says Jay Cluff, president of the pageant committee. "The costume committee must design and sew enough costumes for 500 to 600 people." Virtually all of the costumes seen in the Pageant were designed and created by Linda Wheeler and- - by Susan ' Memmott-Allrewho ialso designs costumes for the Utah Opera. The fact that the Pageant is presented on the hill of the Manti Temple has introduced special challenges, and costumes must be carefully designed. "Instead of a black background or a light background, as in many theatrical productions, we have to design using colors that work well against dark green grass," Wheeler points out. "Some colors that match the period wash out or even appear fluorescent once theyre on the hill under the lights." In addition to redesigning the wardrobe, the costume committee has been producing a larger number of outfits for the group scenes. The hope of the pageant presidency is that more people will want to participate as angels, pioneers, or members of handcart ar Fountain Green City Council would like to thank those individuals who go the extra iiiile in helping to d, i improve our community.
