Pickett is currently serving as president of the Gunnison Valley Businessmans Association, on the Gunnison City Board of Adjustments, and is the 1998 chairman of Gunnisons July 4 activities. He has also served as president of Gunnison Valley Jaycees and on the Sanpete County Economic Development Board, has been on school building committees, served in numerous church callings and has been actively involved with the Republican Party for 18 years. GUNNISON "I am running for Sanpete County Commissioner for the well being of my family and the families of our county," said Kim Pickett, Republican candidate for Sanpete County Commissioner. Pickett, who will meet Bruce Blackham in the Republican Primary Election on June 23, is a Gunnison native, and a graduate of Brigham Young University. He and his wife, Kaye, have six children. "Working on our family farm as a youth and during summer breaks from college taught me hard work and an appreciation for agriculture," Pickett said. He served a mission to Brazil returning in 1980, then graduated from BYU with a degree in agricultural economics. He attended graduate school and worked for a securities company before returning to Gunnison in 1988 to work for Gunnison Implement Co. Decorations were festive with beautiful balloons and many centerpieces of fresh flowers. A beautiful corsage was pinned on Jessie by her niece, Connie. A delicious dinner was served to 21 party guests. After dinner, everyone was given the opportunity to tell interesting stories about themselves, families and memories of grandparents, John J., Mary, and Lillian Oldroyd. Tributes to Jessie were given by June Bell and Edgel Oldroyd. Edgel said with the many things she has participated in during her life, she made her first big public debut at the age of two or three years, being selected as Fountain Greens Young Miss Utah with Parade entries needed for 4th by Murphy-Marti- n MT. PLEASAN- T- Hub City Days Parade Committee is calling for parade entries for the annual 4th of July event. This years theme is "Community Pride". Interested parties may contact city hall for a parade intent form. Awards will be given for best commercial entry, best entry and for the best representation of the "Community Pride" theme. Additional awards will be given to children during their portion of the parade. Judging will take place at the announcers booth and winners will be announced later at the park. City Days Parade Committee is looking for a family to act as grand marshals for the July 4th parade with the theme of "Community Pride". Jessie was born in Fountain Green, the daughter of John J. and Mary Ann Morgan Oldroyd. She also had a second mother, Lillian H. Oldroyd. She attended Fountain Green and Junior High Elementary School. She spent a short time in the Moroni High School until her family moved to Salt Lake City where she graduated from LDS High School. the following year she began her studies at Snow College from which she graduated then attended the University of Utah. She later returned to school and graduated from BYU in 1955. Her chosen profession was teaching school. In 1927, she began teaching the second grade at Fountain Green Elementary. She also taught in the high schools of Mt. Pleasant and Moroni some of her favorite subjects and activities of physical education, floor shows, dancing, the arts, particularly drama and English. She is proud of her students who excelled in speech, drama, winning first places in plays, readings, pantomimes and public speech in the district and onto performing at BYU and University of Utah. She retired in 1970.
