PIPE CHANNELS ANGLE TUBE FLATS GOOD SELECTION GUNNISO- N- Central Utah Bruce Schmidt, DWR fisheries chief, explained that state hatcheries were operating at capacity and existing fish had already been committed. The DWR plans to triple the number of pounds of fish allocated for restocking Scofield Reservoir. In the spring of 92, 175,000 three-inc- h trout and 175,000 h trout are scheduled for plantfive-inc- ing. In the fall, an additional 107.000 five-inc- h and 10,000 will be planted. Sch- midt commented that any additional fish would have to come out of a commercial hatchery Regional fisheries manager, Kevin Christopherson, stated that h 60.000 fish would be the minimum number and size needed to provide reasonable fishing for a reservoir the size of Scofield. The cost would run about $45,000. Federal matching funds could provide about $36,000. The rest would have to come from state or local sources. Schmidt said that fisheries do not have the extra $12,000 in state funds to commit to the proposal. It was proposed that anglers statewide raise the balance. Schmidt advised that money would have to be received by Aug. 1 to allow time for a commercial hatchery to grow the fish. DWR earlier proposed that Scofield be closed a year to allow time for the food chain to reestablish and to give the three and h fish a chance to grow up.
