PLEASAN- T- A Round Robin Tennis Tournament, Saturday, June 29, at 10 a.m. will begin Hub City Day festivities. Winners will compete in a play off July 4. A chess tournament is also being planned if there is enough interest Those interested should contact Dave Blackham, The official Welcome Home Rally for the 1457th Engineer Battalion, Company D, will be ;held Wednesday, July 3, at 8 p.m. at the North Sanpete High School Football Field. Dignitaries will speak and musical numbers will be performed by the 23rd Army Band, Spiriteers, Debbie Coates and Susan Shepherd. A cultural arts show, featuring paintings by Sanpete artists, a photo contest and doll show will be held July 3, 4, 5, and 6, from noon to 7 p.m. at the North Sanpete Recreation Center. Flag raising ceremonies will be conducted July 3, 5, and 6, at 7 a.m. and July 4 at 6:45 a.m. at City Park. Thursday, July 4 a chuck wagon breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. at the park. A childrens parade will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the mammoth parade at 11:30 a.m. 462-347- 6. & A PTA carnival, concessions,, worm races, and talent show will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the park, and food will also be served by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A barbecue will be held at 5:30 p.m. The first night of a three-nigrodeo main event, featuring Slash C rodeo stock, will be held July 4 at 7:30 p.m. followed by fireworks after dark. Friday, July 5, the rodeo will be followed by a youth dance, featuring Audio Vision, at the tennis courts at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 6, the rodeo will be followed by an adult dance, featuring Junction 89, at the tennis courts. PLEASAN- T- Dr. Dail Averett will be honored as Grand Marshal of the Hub City Days celebration July 3, 4, 5, and 6. Bom and raised in Ml Pleasant, Dr. Averett was educated at North Sanpete High School, Snow College and Brigham Young University, as well as in Portland, Ore. He practiced optometry in New York, Europe, and Califor- - for great-grandchildr- en Helena McKinnon She is in excellent health and still goes to the temple twice a week where she does endowment work for eight names. She walks each day and works in her yard. Early celebrations were similar to todays Hub City Days, with the traditional breakfast, parade, rodeo and fireworks. They also included a Little Bucka-ro- o Rodeo for the children. Active in civic and church duties, Dr. Averett was a scouter and Scoutmaster for 25 years earning numerous awards including, the Silver Beaver, Chief Sow-iettScouters Key, and Extra Miler. He also won the outstanding award for the Junior Chamber of Commerce and was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. He was the first bishop of the ML Pleasant First LDS Ward, and served many years on the stake high council Dr. Averett attributes his success and recognition to the help and influence of the many people he has known. e, Dail Averett has been chosen as Moronis "Goddess of Liberty and will be honored by riding in a carriage in the July 4 parade. Mrs. McKinnon, 94, is recognized as a senior citizen who has contributed much to the community over the years. She was bom Nov. 29, 1896, in Moroni. She was educated in Moroni schools. She married John M. Olsen, and they had four daughters. He died. She married Ray B. McKinnon. They served and LDS Mission to the England South Mission. He died. She was 25 grandchildren, 98 and seven Senior Citizens and the ladies clubs of Moroni She has been a visiting teacher for many years. The Ml Pleasant royalty and Mayor Chesley Christensen will also be on hand.
