Samuels and the Bon Marche in Ogden and Makeoffs in Salt Lake City, as well as selling real estate in Ogden, Maxie longed to chuck it all, dig in her own garden and learn to paint pictures. She said that during her traveling there were many times when she could have felt lonely and sorry for herself, but instead would look at the hills from her plane seat and enjoy the scenery. She loved the tops of the hills and, with her husband, Ross, built a home and decorated it to her own design on top of one near Layton. They lived in their hilltop paradise for seven years before Ross died in 1971, only two years after Maxie retired from working. It took her a year to sell her home, after which she rented an apartment in Salt Lake City for 11 months, and later bought a condominium there t business commuter, who was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, left in 1930 and returned in 1982. Maxie Christiansen (nee Olson) is a rank beginner in the painting field. She now has plenty of time to spend on study and practice and has desire to try yielded to a long-tim- e her hand at it. Contrary to the experiences of other painters who spent their early childhood with pencils, crayons and watercolors, Maxie was critically ill during childhood and in and out of hospitals until she was 30 years old. She said she was too ill to care about anything, much less desire to do anything. Two years ago she decided it was time to try painting and is now learning to paint the hills she always loved. A which she decorated herself and lived in for nine years. However, even with such a busy life, Christiansen didnt lack for creative activities. She designed and made her own fashionable clothes which were the envy of many of her friends. She has been an accomplished crocheter, having five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren to keep supplied with sweaters, vests, hats and mittens. Besides the children, Maxie has a beloved daughter, Shanna Lee, who, according to Maxie, was largely responsible for all her successes, as she helped with the housework and cooking from the time she had to stand on a stool to fry an egg. Also being adept at flower arranging, she designed and made all the flower arrangements for her granddaughters wedding, which she declared was a sizeable undertaking. She had previously made the wedding dress and veiled hat for her daughter. e in the city Tiring of the and owning a sentimental piece of property in Mt. She designed another home, oversaw the construction, did her own decorating and landscaping and now is comfortably settled on the same lot where her J an advanced artist lady friend, but didn't follow up on it. Being a positive person, Maxie recently attended a meeting of the Sanpete Valley Art Guild, and met people whom she called fantastic, helpful, encouraging and wonderful. She paid her guild dues and joined that same night. The second meeting she attended, she took along her art supplies and dived in with the other painters, receiving help, advice, suggestions and encouragement Project aids women by Betty Robbins EPHRAIM Women for Work, a project serving areas within the area, held a banquet May 21 at the Snow College cafeteria to honor the displaced homemakers, single parent heads of households and people actively involved in making the over all program work. The women for work project is headquartered at the Career Center on Snow Colleges West Campus. Kay Willardson, director of the project; Sherry Stanton, Vista from other worker for the displaced homemaker in the six county area; and Pat Thomas, assistant director for the Delta Cite of the Women for Work project; work as a team to locate displaced homemakers in the six county area. The needs of the individuals are assessed then women are involved in support groups. Through training are homemakers displaced prepared to become self sufficient, productive and happy members of society. NOW OPEN members. She also has enrolled as a student of Evan Nelson of Mt. Pleasant. This aspiring lady is now learning to paint the hills she has always loved, along with their accompanying clouds, trees, streams and fields. Instead of crocheting warm clothing, Maxie now hopes to complete a painting for each member of her family.
