Show 8 contestants vie for Miss Mt. Pleasant title MT. PLEASAN- TEight contestants will be vying for the Miss Mt. Pleasant Title in the annual pageant to be held Saturday night April 26 at 7 p.m. in the North Sanpete High School Auditorium The girls include, Colette Anderson, Nola Russell, Roxie Miller Shellie Poulsen, Melody a Brothersen, Kristie Peterson, Molly McKay, and Amy Mikkelsen. Colette Anderson Colette Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Anderson, recently was named the runner up of the region Sterling Scholar competition. A senior at North Sanpete High School she is in the National Honor Society. She has had seven years of piano lessons. Her hobbies are sewing, cooking, reading, and horseback riding. She also participates in softball and volleyball and is a volunteer candystriper at Sanpete Valley Hospital. Nola Russell Nola Russell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Russell, is also a senior at North Sanpete and was the music Sterling Scholar candidate. She has taken seven years of piano, five years in violin and is in the Snow College Honor Orchestra. She is also a member of the North Sanpete Vocal Ensemble and has participated in five musicals, two of which she had lead parts. Her hobbies include cooking, sewing, cutting hair, and making music. She participates in volleyball, basketball, hiking and swimming. Roxie Miller Roxie Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Poulson has been a cheerleader for two years. She has been a drum majorette and participated in stage, marching and concert band where she plays the saxaphone. She plays volleyball, track and softball. She is currently Youre in working with the Charge and Alcohol and Drug Abuse programs. Shellie Poulsen Shellie Poulsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Poulsen, has been involved with school and local plays. She has been on the school dance team for three years, plays the clarinet and also plays the piano by ear. She has participated in track, volleyball and basketball and is on the Youth City Council. She is the Sanpete Teen Council Secretary and has been a finalist in the Miss Utah Teen for the past three years. She enjoys horseback riding and has received many honors for the Horsemanship Team. She also enjoys singing and dancing. She has been a school class officer, was a representative for the Close Up program and was Annie in the school play. Melody Brothersen Melody A. Brothersen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Brothersen, has taken four years of piano lessons and has also had dance lessons. She has coached drama. Her hobbies are reading, horseback riding and writing. She participates in softball and volleyball. She has been nominated as the Sterling Scholar for speech and drama. She received a first place trophy at the Gunnison Invitational and was first in the Youth Conference Talent Show. Kristie Peterson Kristie Peterson, daughter of Starla Peterson and Larry Peterson, has been a cheerleader for two years and had three years of dance. Her hobbies are cheerleading, sports, singing and dance. He earned a doctorate in higher education administration at Pennsylvania State University. His excellence in both academic is and leadership achievements Central Florida University. His teaching experience has been in organizational behavior, communications and educational administration. Dr. White is familiar with rural Utah needs. He will be assuming the position as Snows chief academic officer which is being vacated by McLoyd Ericksen who retires this June after 25 years of distinguished service at Snow College. Dr. White will spend a week on campus at commencement time and assume his new duties in late June. by Sal Krouth I am quite MT. Lister School board candidates must file by June 30 MANTI Although the deadline has passed for candidates to file for most county and state elections, candidates may still file for nonpartisan olfices for county justice of the peace, school board seats, and some judicial olfices. Filing deadline dates for county Justice of the Peace is June 30. Two candidates have already filed for North Sanpete Precinct Justice of the Peace, incumbent Ted A. Dase Bill and W.F. W'arren. South Sanpete Precinct incumbent Boyd H. Brady has no opponent thus far. Local school board candidates have until June 25 to file their intentions for those offices. Four-yea- r North Sanpete School Board seats that expire this year include Precinct 4, Wales, Chester, and Fountain Green, now held by Alan of Business Administration at Precinct 4, Manti 1 and 3, Donald Shand, and Precinct 5, Ephraim 1, Manti and Sterling, McLoyd Enckson. r A state school board seat for District 9 now filled by Barbara Ann Smith is also up for election. District 9 includes Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Grand, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Summit, Uintah, Wasatch and part Utah. ' Judicial candidates for Supreme Court and district and circuit judge must file in the month of May. Judicial seats include Sixth District Court, held by Don Tibbs and the Third District juvenile court. The Sixth District includes Garfield, Kane, Piute, Sevier and Wayne counties. The Third District is Daggett, Duchesne, Sanpete, Uintah and Wasatch. Glen Lee, four-yea- 1 has an extensive background in the business field having retired as owner of a mortgage banking firm which had branches in Utah, Wyoming and Idaho. He had been in the business for 35 years before selling out to Wells Fargo. Previous to owning his own company Lister was executive vice president of Tracy Collins Bank. In the area of chamber experience Lister Served in the Sugar House Chamber during the twelve years that he lived there. He served on the board for four years and was chamber president for a year. He worked in the expansion of many of that chambers programs and specifically took an interest in the beautification of Sugar House, the chamber queen contest and worked in improving the public relations program. Lister served as president of the Rocky Mountain Exchange Club and his area included all states west of the Mississippi. The exchange club is active in patriotic civic work and community service on a national level. He also worked with the Salt Lake City chamber when it was expanded to the Greater Salt Lake Area Chamber. Lister, with his wife Lois, have resided in the Mt. Peasant area for the past seven years. And he said that he loves Mt. Pleasant and enjoys the people here very much. v;y ,V ww4 g V Hall. South Sanpete School Board Seats include Precinct 1, Ephraim 2 and 3, Apply now for circuit breaker Breaker credit and-o- r the Indigent Abatement must do so before May 1. Applicants may apply for either or both credits but applications need to be mailed to the Sanpete County Auditor before the deadline date, according to Lorn Jackson, director Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens, who said he has a supply of applications. To qualify for Circuit Breaker Credit, the applicant must be either 65 years old or a widow or widower; have an annual income less than $10,000; be a legal resident of Utah for the entire year, 1986; own and occupy his own residence on Jan. 1, 1986, and furnish his own support during 1985. To qualify for the county Indigent Abatement, the applicant must be 65 or over, disabled if under 65, or suffer extreme hardship. He must also have an income less than $7,500 if single or less than $8,000 if married and live at his residence for 10 of the previous 12 months. The maximum Circuit Breaker Credit will be the property tax due but no more than $300 The county Get The Junk Out May abatement cannot exceed 50 percent of the tax assessed up to $300. Those failing to file by May 1 will not qualify for the Indigent Abatement but can still file for a property tax (Circuit Breaker) refund by filing directly with the Utah State Tax Commission before households and residents of Mt. White as Vice President of Instruction at Snow. The appointment of Dr. White culminates a nationwide search which involved one hundred and one applicants. President Bennion indicated that a Snow College search committee chaired by Professor Bart Nelson interviewed 13 candidates before presenting a list of five finalists for the final selection. Snow can be proud of the high caliber of applicants who applied for President Bennion this position, Rick White will bring an stated. i volleyball, basketball, track, 23, Richard White named to Snow College post v. I ; softball and tennis and has received such honors as Volleyball Rookie of the Year and basketball team captain. She is in the high honor roll and is a member in the Foreign Language Club at North Sanpete. She is a state finalist for the Miss Utah Pageant in May. Molly McKay Molly McKay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McKay, has had speech and drama, debate training in high school and has taken ventriloquism courses. Her hobbies consist of sewing, horsemanship, tole painting and stamp collecting. She participates in basketball, volleyball and track. She has participated at state speech meets, qualified for state in the high school rodeo for two years, was junior varsity cheerleader, and a state conference delegate to National in Washington D.C. She won Miss Congeniality in 1984 and the public speaking award in 1985 at the state high school rodeo. Amy Mikkelsen Amy Mikkelsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mikkelsen, is a member of the North Sanpete Drill Team. She plays the piano and clarinet. Her hobbies are dancing, playing the piano and sewing. She also enjoys softball, swimming, and biking. She is a member of the Mt.
