Fairview Scouters honored with Silver Beaver Award PROVO Two veteran Fairview scouters received the coveted Silver Beaver Award at the annual Fellowship Recognition Dinner by the Utah National Parks Council and held at the Wilkinson Center at Brigham Young sponsored Welfare Farm and a filbert nut ranch. He is now employed with the Department of Fish and Game in Ephraim. University. Honored with Scoutings highest award were Allan Hansen and Dr. Harold Johnson. The two were the only two from the Sanpete District to receive the honor. The council, which covers most of the state south of Point of the Mountain honored 43 scouters. Allan Hansen serves as Hansen presently scouting coordinator and has had a total tenure of more than 25 years. He has given services as assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster, unit vice district commissioner, chairman and stake scoutmaster.' He has received the Scouters Trainers Award, Second Miler Award, District Award of Merit and is a Woodbadge trainee. He is active in the LDS Church and was released last Sunday as second counselor in the Second Ward Bishopric. He is a member of the Fairview Lions Club. Hansen was recognized for his continual work with youth and his efforts to help them achieve as they move along the Scouting trail. He has helped to provide many excellent outside activities for youth in this area. He was recognized for his love for youth and for the scouting program and as an excellent example of dedication to the ideals of scouting. A native of Centerfield, Hansen is the son of the late Ferdand and Ella R. Hansen. He married Erma Lee Bench of Fairview and the couple lived for several years in Oregon where he managed and LDS Church Allan Hansen He is a graduate of Utah Technical College in Salt Lake City and was a member of the Utah National Guard. Dr. Harold Johnson Dr. Harold Johnson, Superintendent of the North Sanpete School District, has given more than 25 years of service to the scouting program. He has served as scouunit committeeman, tmaster, representative and for the past five years has served as district chairman. A native of El Monte, Calif. Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Whittier College and received his masters degree from California State College at Los Angeles. He received his doctorate from the University of Utah. He served as superintendent of the LDS Church Schools in Western Samoa; and prior to becoming superintendent of the North Sanpete School District five years ago, was of the Director Vocational Education at Snow College. Under his leadership, the NS District has completed a new school in Fairview, a new Middle School in Moroni remodeled the Mt. Pleasant and Moroni elementaries and is nearing completion of a new high school in Mt. Pleasant. Active in the LDS Church, Dr. Johnson has served as bishop of several wards including the Snow College Ward. He and his wife, Lola, are parents of four children, Marcia Pyne of Spanish Fork, Mike of Florida, Cathy Johnson of Provo and David of Salt Lake City. They have five grandchildren. The highlight of the conference for the Snow College Chapter was receiving first place for the most outstanding community service project which focused on raising funds for social services to obtain preventive programs against child abuse.
