ARTISTS Arvilla Henrie and Norma Schmidt have been spreading their talents throughout the facilities and often create art through ingenious methods. Davis County native Arvilla Henrie, born in Woods Cross, has been putting a brush to canvas for the past eight years but gets a nack for it from her father and brother, although a friend got her started. That friend later quit, but Mrs. Henrie kept it up, taking lessons at the Bountiful Golden Years Center. SHE IS the mother of five children, tw o daughters living in Bountiful, a son in Layton, a daughter in Ogden and a son in California. Responsible for many of the paintings hanging in the Meadows, an independent living facility for senior citizens and handicapped, she also enjoys reading and quilting. although a lot of her former quilting time has been switched to painting. AFTER her marriage, she lived in Driggs. Ida. from 1925 to 1942. Before that. Mrs. Henrie studied milinary in L.os Angeles and would model a halfday and make hats the other half. A lover of flow ers, she used to grow many in her former Woods Cross home. Mrs. Schmidt has lived in Bountiful for nearly 14 years, including one year as a Meadow East resi- dent. BORN IN Rexburg, Ida.. Mrs. Schmidt started painting five years ago after happening upon some cans of leftover paint her husband had used in his vocation of house painter. Since then, she's developed an avid interest in painting, putting her brush to any type of surface available including one picture done on corrugated cardboard and another on tin. SHE USES both oil and acrylic paint. Although she's had no formal lessons, Mrs. Schmidt can boast of only doing original w'ork, never copying paintings. In addition, she has taught herself to play both the keyboard and the accordian and admits to a love for the mountains. They are the focus for the majority of her paintings. POSSESSING a good sense of humor, she keeps other residents entertained with her stories and pictures and has a daughter living in Idaho. ccasionally unfortunate circumstances make it difficult for some customers to deal with overdue gas bills.
