Hotel 19 and 20 at the Tri-Ar- c in Salt Lake City. The impact of agricultural land losses upon the Nations present and future ability to produce food and fiber will be discussed. Secretary of Agriculture Bob Bergland announced. The workshops are being held in 17 states under the auspices of the Federal interagency National Lands Study NALS), created in June this year. The study is by Secretary Bergland and Gus Speth, Chairman of the Presidents Council on Agricultural Environmental Quality. Nine other Federal agencies are participating. These workshops will involve the public in the fullest sense, Secretary Bergland said. We are seekjng information from individual ''citizens, public interest groups and state and on the local governments availability of agricultural lands. We are especially interested in the effects of agricultural land losses upon present and future food supplies. Participants will be to share their experiences and viewpoints about: Problems stemming from increased competition for, or actual conversion of agricultural lands; Values that are threatened by current trends in the availability of agricultural lands; Ways to avoid or mitigate the most important problems cited. Inquiries will be made into the most rapidly growing local demands for from individual citizens and public interest groups an knowledge of the status of agricultural lands in their regions. When land loss problems have been voiced, we will discuss possible solutions. Forty eight states and agricultural contributed to the success or failure of these programs.
