Show f BEN 3 LOMOND BEACON. May 17, 1979, Pag This is not just any ordncny. . . By Carol Shaw Do you ever feel just a teeny bit invisible? Like everyone more or less thintrt of you as part of the furniture and you would like to do something really spectacular to get them to notice that you are still breathing? While, of course there are many ways of accomplishing this, one of the most effective is to sport a good shiner. Last week I was lying tranquilly on my back in the swimming pool, when a child pushed off from the edge without looking where he was pushing off to. He came down right on the edge of my eyebrow with the ack of his head, splitting an inch and a half gash on my.face. Suddenly, I was the sensation of the pool. It isnt everyone who has blood spurting all over the place! The poor kid was so tramatized, he didnt even I guess he say, Ouch! hoped no one would realize that he was the one involved if he kept his mouth shut. The emergency room doctor who stiched me up shook his head sadly. A couple of small arteries were broken, so you are having a lot of bleeding and he said. You are have a very UGLY eye for a few days." His prediction was no exaggeration! By the next day, the whole area around my eye was swollen and discolored. It ranged from fusha to shartruse with deeper accents of blue violet. Oh, boy, do I ever get swelling, going to attention! Complete strangers stare at me and quip, I would sure like to see the other guy! , Dear friends try to stifle a snicker, hide a giggle and then burst into uncontrollable laughter. Oh, (ha, ha) that looks sore! (Ha, ha.) What happened? by Kris Ewert (Ho, ho, ho.) It,s (bar, bar) too bad you (hm, hmm, hmm) got hurt (He, be bee.) . I wonder If I could get away with wearing a ski mask in May? Wayne Summers told me that his daughters life was saved last week by the quick thinking and training of Jim Flinders. Little 5 yr. old Daw, who Wayne Ascribes as The local Welcome Wagon, was visiting their new neighbors while Jim was helping them install a swing set. Dawn naturally had to try it out. As she was swinging back, a Life Saver caught in her throat. She began choking. ; Luckily, Jim grabbed her and performed the Heimilick maneauver, grabbing her around the waist and forcing air out by pushing up and in on her diaphram. That realeased the candy. We are sure thankful to Jim, said Wayne... Petes back reaches above six feet, high enough that Plain City principal, Bob Stewart had to bring a fullsized baseball bleacher in front of his school so children there could climb aboard to ride the saddled animal. Mr. Stewart asked me if Id bring Pete to the Plain City Dairy Days, but since they were postponed till later in May, he asked if we'd come over this week to let the kids ride, said the Anderson boy. Pete, who used to be a wild bucking bronc calf, now is much tamer and wears a saddle for the younger kids to ride him. But the younger generation is not the only ones to have all the fun, even the teachers got their turn to ride the saddled steer. Miss Lori Adams will tell you about that. Pete has been entered in several parades over the past years and has taken home his share of awards. Two years he has won the Rider Miscellaneous in the Ogden Award parade. He has been riden in parades at Heber, Riverton, and was entered in the National Livestock Show n the Golden Spike Colosium. Other than the fact that they take a large chunk of time, make a big mess and are immpossible for perpetual dieters like me to resist, I think it is a great idea ! Being the big softy that I am, we get hot, scrumptious spudnuts fairly often. I pacify my consience by leaving the glaze off mine. All of them. Spudnuts Melt l'fe squares margarine in a large pan. Add 4 slightly beaten eggs, T salt and 1 C sugar. Then add 1 C leftover mashed potatoes. (You can reconstitute dry potato flakes if you want.) Stir in 6 C flour 1 kneeding it in when it becomes to stiff to stir. This should end up to be a very soft dough. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again. Roll out on lightly floured surface and cut with a doughnut cutter. Let rise until a light imprint remains when they are touched lightly on one side. Remove from heat. Add 5 C Fry in hot oil.
