Show Preps Goal is to Play onThe Carpet By KENT SOMERS This game wont even be close, but it may be respectable. Davis wins this one, BOUNTIFUL AT HIGHNow to the tough LAND games to predict in Region Four. Bountiful scored its first points of the season last week and recorded its first win by beating Granger.' Highland, on the other hand, lost its first game of the season and now has a 1 record. The Rams run a wishbdne offense, but Bountiful has an option team earlier this year when it played Layton. The Braves defense has held up well this year, and there are indications the offense is coming around. Take Bountiful in an' upset win, T WOODS CROSS AT The Vikings took Skyline apart last week with their passing game in their best offensive show of the year while Woods Cross was losing to Lay-- Review Sports Editor - Carpet, thats all you hear high school football players and coaches talking about this fall. You would think they were doing Steve Ogden imitations. But its a trip to the carpet, the state tournament in other words, local high schools will start playing for this Friday when the region seasons open. And what makes the games even more interesting is two games between traditional rivals. Here are the matchups in the games this Friday and some ' humble predictions. DAVIS AT EAST Ill start off easy. It will take luck, an overconfident Davis team, and more luck for the East Leopards to win this game. They shouldnt count on any of, those elements against the 0 Darts, who have looked impressive this year. East has good size, as usual, but is winless this season. 21-- 0. 2-- de-fens- ed . 14-1- 0. VIEW-MON- 3-- ton. Both schools are now 1 on the year. Both teams losses have come against Layton. This will be one of the biggest games of the season for the Wildcats, who have been blown out by the Vikes in recent years. Woods Cross Coach Larry mentioned Viewmont several times in his comments, and he and his team want this one badly. But there is no way the Wildcats are thinking ahead of this game. In some ways, theyve been focusing on it even before the season began. Because of Viewmonts offensive display last week, and the play of the offensive line, a field goal or extra point could decide this one. This game has to be rated even. Strictly on a hunch, Viewmont 21, Woods Cross 20. ROY AT BOX ELDER Brigham City is not the funnest place in the area to play. Box Elder has been playing under the 2-- Eld-rach- er pre-seas- ip1. lights for years, and has a loyal following of its areas resident. Both teams have 1 records, and were beat handily in their only losses this year. Jacklin, no doubt, will have the Royals ready to play Friday night, and they should win the game. Roy 20, Box Elder 7. LAYTON AT CLEARFIELD The Lancers are now 0 on the season, and Clearfield remains winless at But the Falcons record is deceiving. They lost two close games to Viewmont and Woods Cross and Were blown out last week against a strong Davis team. , Clearfield High deserves some breaks, but Layton is playing too well to give them very many.' Take Layton to win this Davis County rivalry, So there you have this weeks predictions. Davis and Roy tied for the third spot with Alta, and host Weber placed first and Box Elder took second. Roy Coach Radene Johnson said her Royals beat both Weber and Box Elder in the tournament but lost to Skyline, Davis and Hillcrest to take themselves out of the running for first place. Roy was leading against 13-- 5 against Skyline in one game, said Johnson, who feldt comfortable enought to substitute for her starters. The reserves could not hold the lead, and the Eagles came back to win the game and the match. Johnson said last weekends tournament was grueling because teams often had to play three straight games, and conditioning y was a major factor in the competition. The tournament was one of the last competitions for area high schools, which begin region play this Thursday.
