Killed was Michael Erickson, 14, who was pronounced dead on arrival at Ashton Memorial Hospital. Kirk Barber, 12, also of Clearfield, was in a tent only 15 feet away from Erickson when the lightening struck. He was sent to the University of Utah hospital 1 for treatment of second and third degree burns. He is listed in stable condition. A memorial fund has been set up for Erickson. The money will be used to send underpriviledge scouts to camp. Donations can be sent to the Mike Erickson Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 872, Clearfield, Utah, 84015. BARD Manager Elmer Barlow said the decision to extend the hours was made in response to a citizens committee in Bountiful. Scott Butters, chairman of the committee, asked the landfill to lengthen its hours one night per week to serve those who cant haul their refuse to the landfilld-urin- g regular hours. Barlow said the landfill may also extend its hours on other evenings during the week depending on the response to the longer extended hours. On Friday, the landfill will open at 8 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. The landfills normal hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. will stay in effect for the rest of the week except Sunday when the landfill Layton Hilts r in-sto- re is closed. If the demand for the longer hours isnt great then the hours will likely revert to the original schedule.
