WX on Mountain 3A Asked for A large WX may soon join BOUNTIFUL V and B on mountainsides overlooking Bountiful. Student body officers at Woods Cross High School have asked Bountiful city officials to find a mountainside in the city where the initials WX can be placed. But Bountiful Mayor Dean Stahle said he does not know of any land near the city where the letters could be placed. Councilman Paul Allen said that most of the land in the mountains around Bountiful is U.S. Forrest Service land. The students should talk to letters, but that the students would like to see the process begin. She asked the council to let the students know if land is available and at what price. Stahle, while noting that he personally feels there should be no letters on the mountains, said the letters do become a rather important area of ceremony for schools and tend to serve as a focal point for school spirit. Stahle suggested that even though he knows of no land for the letters, the city may be willing to help find land that the students can use. If the city can find land for the letters, Councilman Keith Barton said the city should help the students. He said he supports the students in their the forest service, he suggested. The B is a feeling of accomplishment. She said it may take students several years, used as a symbol for Bountiful High School and however, to raise funds to purchase land for the the V is for Viewmonth High School. a N. White. The automated EMS cuts energy costs by switching off lights, furnaces, and fans when buildings are not in use, and it detects movement in the building, monitors smoke alarms, and notifys maintenance people of malfunctions in equipment. Dr. White said that EMS sensors actually deteected someone entering a school at night, and monitored then left the room, went to a supply room, and then back to the copy machine. The visitor was later found to be authorized, but it proved how sensitive the equipment actually WEEK ONLY was. In 1980, vandalism was at its peak in the Davis County schools, with a cost to the district of $105,000. EMS was installed, and damage dropped to a cost of $93,000 the following year. Even though there were more buildings in 1982, the cost again dropped to $80,000 last year, White said. The main areas of damage to schools are glass breakage, followed by removal of hardware on doors, locker destruction, fire extinguisher damage graffiti on walls, and damage to typewriter, phone, and TV, said Dr. White. Cost of installing the system is $30,000 per high school, with elementary school systems costing slightly less. The monitoring system will pay for itself in a year, according to Roger Glines, clerk business manager for the district. The Davis School District was first in the state to put the system in its schools, and it plans to have EMS in every building by August of 1983. beac- hOF NORTHERN ALL UTAH WITH ADVERTISEMENTS AND NEWSI Over 119,000 Households Home Delivered In 4 Counties!
