By SHELLEY KANCITIS Raviaw Corratpondanl The driver tried to avoid hitting a small dog who darted off the sidewalk, but as his tires skidded, the cars rear wheels struck the helpless animal. Several people gathered to try to help the injured dog, but no one knew what to do. When deciding whether an injury has occurred, Dr. Etta Baker, a veterinarian in Clearfield, said if the animal does not run away when approached, it is probably hurt. She said the first step in treating an injured animal is to gent eflHelp plying a compress. Area veterinarians generally offer emergency service if an animal is injured after office hours, but many people call their local city for help, when an animal is killed. During working hours, residents should call the local animal control officer. For accidents after working hours, Roy residents should call their police ly tie the animals mouth shut.
