Children of all ages are usually attached to the kite string. As the spring winds begin to blow, more and more children and adults are turning to kite making and buying. Readymade kite prices range from $1.69 to hundreds of dollars. The kite has always been an important part of peoples lives. People have used kites for toys, catching food, religious objects or sometimes as weapons of war. It is believed that the first kite dates back to a Chinese general in 200 B.C. The story has the general wanting to measure the exact distance of an enemys fortress walls so that he could build a tunnel underneath it. By flying the kite and measuring the string used, the general was able to accomplish his task. Kites have played a role in the everyday life of many. Samoans used them to pull canoes and Koreans, for catching fish. The Far East has a Kite Day on the ninth day of the ninth month.
