marion county west virginia september aith and there were present elders samuel G spencer president oi the mission elder eider cornelius richardson president ot of the t conference on ference and elders joseph M green P R gillespie joseph bindrup joseph N morris heber T robertson lohn john Y barlow J C alien william hir hafl austin M br brown n john at R joshua selley OW 11 also s elder er G W northern who arrived from utah september conference commenced saturday at 10 a m elder samuel G spencer presiding ae siding elder joseph bindrup was called upon to address the conference on the subject ot of faith he spoke of the object of faith in this age of the world and of the necessity of the same kind of faith that was possessed pos essed by the apostles of old that all may obtain the same kind of Res blessings sings as they benj enjoyed oye d elder bindrup bore his testimony to the truth of the gospel which had been restored in this age elder john Y barlow addressed the conference 06 on the subject ot repentance told of the repentance of saul and said that was the kind of repentance that was acceptable in the sight of god that godly repentance salva tion but the sorrows of the world death elder barlow bore bis testimony to the truth of the work at 2 p m elder I 1 C allen alien spoke on oa the subject of baptism he showed clearly by frequent quotations from the scriptures that this ordinance was essential to salvation also showed that mankind could not be saved without complying with this principle elder allen alien gave his bis testimony that he knew the work he was engaged in to be the work of god elder john R crawford addressed the conference on the fourth principle of the gospel the conferring of the holy ghost he quoted from the second and nineteenth chapters of acts act to show the necessity of this ordinance aud and the blessings to be obtained b by receiving the same elder crawford Craw crawford fory bore his testimony elder P R gillespie also bore his testimony to the work said he was will ing to do all in his power to spread the gospel elder cornelius Wi richardson chardson then addressed the conference also on the fourth principle of the gospel he spoke of the power of the holy ghost and the blessings that would follow those who received the same elder joseph N morris bore his testimony to the truth ot of the gospel of christ at 7 p m elder joseph M green ad dressed drase at the conference on the divine mission mission of the prophet joseph smith made frequent quotations from scripture to prove that prophets should be in these the last days bore his testimony that he be knew joseph smith was a prophet of god urged all ail to in invest ti gate the gospel elder heber T robertson also bore his testimony to the truth of the gospel and of the knowledge he had that joseph smith was a prophet of god he asked aalto all to li listen to the testimony of the humble elders conference reconvened at io 10 a m sunday elder william hill addressed the congregation on the subject of divine authority H he referred to the fifth chapter of hebrews to prove rove that a man must int be called of god as was aaron quoted from fourth chapter ot of exodus to show that aaron was called by god through his prophet he urged all to investigate the gospel without prejudice that they may know of the truth closed by bearing his bis testimony elder austin M brown next addressed the conference on the same subject and bore his testimony to the truth of the gospel as revealed in this the latter days at 2 PM p m elder joshua selley spoke on the subject of church organization also on the first principles of the gospel crossel and circumstances leading to the organization of the church of christ elder cornelius richardson then took up the subject and read a portion of the second chapter of ephraim to show how christ organized the church in his day and aad the officers he placed therein said it is just as necessary that prophets and apostles should be placed over the church is this day as it was at the time of christ and his apostles quoted from the third chapter of amos to 10 prove that the lord would do nothing without first revealing the same to his servants closed by bearing his bis testimony at 7 p m elder samuel G spencer addressed the conference on the subject of cati cah we believe the bible to be the word of god and deny the coming forth of the book of mormon and lat ter day revelation selected as a text the twenty sixth verse tenth cha chapter ter st mathiew divided his subject into cur four parts as 09 follows first do you believe the bible if so which bible do you believe second do you believe god knew what he was doing when he revealed himself to the prophets of old making this plan so plain that way faring men need not err or does he need the wisdom of men to help him third is it un unreasonable that the lord would reveal himself to his children in this age ot of th the e corid abri d fourth is it unscriptural to believe that god will and does reveal himself hemsell to his children in this age of the world each part of the subject was handled in a very plain and positive manner the audience quite a large one was very attea attentive tive throughout and expressed themselves as well pleased by unanimous vote they requested that the services be continued monday ev evening ining monday the at io 10 am a m priesthood meeting commenced president spencer addressed the meeting and gave the elders instruction regarding their labors all the elders felt that these instructions were important and expressed themselves as being willing to follow the same in their future labors A feeling of unity and confidence filled every heart meeting adjourned at i p m at 7 p m conference brawt met quite a large audience being present after singing and prayer elder spencer addressed the conference on oil the subject of the restitution of all things the audi ence gave good attention and WILS was well pleased many expressed themselves as being satisfied with the doctrine elder sl spencer c er bore bis big testimony to the truth ot oi al the e gospel dospel and urged all to lay jay aside prejudice and investigate the truth at the conclusion of elder spencers remarks conference adjourned the people of this locality have shown by their hospitality to the elders that they are good honest people everything that could be done for the comfort oi of the elders was wa done and nothing can be said that will give this people full credit for their kindness after services sunday night mrs ellen baker wife of mr jacob baker was so anxious to be born again that she came forth and was baptized the same hour of the night on account of the separ separation aLtion of west virginia from the pennsylvania confer nce ence it became necessary to appoint a president over this conference elder joseph bindrup was selected and sus bained to that position the health of the elders in this con
