fallen the dinst deceased was born at yarmouth hampshire isle of wight england on the ath of september 1823 she was a faithful latter day saint and was loved by all who knew her she leaves a family of while en route to 30 trope europe an a mission deceased was a a niece of israel and Ad augustus gustus beld field of ogden utah during the laist three years of her life she was waa visited ed many the year 1639 when five years old she left connecticut with her parents they left new york on the ath of february 1846 on the ship brooklyn bound lor for california and sailed around south america they were six months on oil the water her mother died on the voyage and was waa burled buried on the island of juan fernandez mandez Fe in the pacific ocean jaran They ey first settled in san Francis coCal pu the last day of july 1846 they were among the first white settlers of san cal they also lived in san bernal bernardio Bernard dano mo they emigrated to utah in they farat birdt settled in the dixie country for a short time next moved to Ped parson roon utah where she married william wilham evans on the lot of january isal they next moved to lehl lehi where they mafle made their home tor for eleven years and then moved to ophir tooele thoele county their son mn albert ophir was the first boy bein at ophir she was the mother of eleven children five boys and six girls ten of whom axe of stephens aged 73 78 years yeara 2 months and a fave ve days I 1 deceased was waa the th arof oi thomas dence and lK harriet arriet and WB was born january 9 1825 at kent england she abe was baptized january 16 1851 remained at havershaw Fa vershaw until 1862 always having an open house and a home for the elders who preached the gospel in the neighborhood when with her husband and children she emigrated to utah traveling with ox teams 1010 miles the family came in captain millers company and in the wagon of elder S F allen alien of hyrum who had been sent to the missouri river to bring the emigrants to zion and he says of her during that long and tedious journey that not a complaint or murmur did she utter but tried and did comfort her family and others whose faith faltered sister stephens came to hyrum in the fall of 1862 when the town had just i moved out of the fort onto the city as an then laid out after leaving a comfortable home in england she commenced housekeeping in zion in a hole in the ground or what was then known as a dugout but having received the dospel for the love of god and the fellowship of the holy ghost no complaint ever came from her lips her unbounded faith in the promises of the gospel goepel always led her to look forward to brighter and better days eighteen years she was second counselor in our relief society and for many years president of the Y li M 1 I A of this ward she was also abigo a teacher in our sunday school for many years and only relinquished these duties when age and infirmity prevented her fulfilling them the funeral was held on thursday march 17 when consoling addresses were delivered by elders S F allen alien J G wilson C C shaw bishop J P F wright and counselor james Jame all bore a faithful testimony to the integrity and faithfulness is of our departed jated sister i after an earnest and useful lif life le her demise was painless and as had been promised she fell asleep in the arms of the beautiful angel of death as aai sweetly as a babe on its mothers breast an aged husband mourns the absence of this thia noble partner who has walked the journey of life side by side with him tor for fifty two years and three grownup sons and two daughters are walting waiting for the union again was this faithful saint wife and mother wom corn DANIEL WELCH at south cottonwood salt lake county march 19 1898 from the effects of rheumatism around the heart daniel welch he was born a at t pils pile don Dorset shire england may 13 1880 1890 was baptized as a member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints on the day of june 1848 left his native land sept lot 1860 for utah crossing the ocean on the ship north atlantic in 66 65 days he was detained in the states several years for the want of means to reach utah on the day of march 1856 married zipporah welch while living in alton illinois in the spring of 1857 he was called with about fam alies to make a settlement in nebraska for an outwitting outfitting out fitting point for the latter day saints on thel their way to utah but in 1859 the government brought the pawnee tribe of indians indiana and located them upon the lands that the saints had occupied and improved notifying them to move off the lands as quickly as possible this was a great loss to the settlers as they had cultivated and improved acres of land at a cost of several thousand dollars he remained in nebraska from this time until the spring of 1863 1868 passing through many privations and hardships in order to raise an outfit to cross the plains on the of july 1863 he left nebraska for utah with an ox team passing through the difficulties and trials incident to such a journey in those times he settled in south cottonwood ward upon his arrival in utah where he has resided until ort time of his decease he was a member of the sev enty second quorum of seventy being ordained to that office in mat march W w 1866 about five years ago he buried 66 wife zipporah whom he married marrie d W illinois in about two years wars after nsf death he be married again this 1 I widow with a family with who whom A W lived happy until the time 5 W death he left a
